Azienda Agricola Dorigo di Alessio Dorigo

Via Subida, 16
33040 Povoletto (Udine)
Italy
The winery was founded in 1966 when Girolamo Dorigo bought two vineyards in the eastern hills of Buttrio and Premariacco.

The potential of these Friulian soils has been evident from the beginning, and with the hard work and passion that Dorigo has for its products, results do not struggle to come. For years he had been traveling to France to learn how to produce wine with bubbles and even in this case the result of Dorigo Brut witnesses it.

The techniques of cultivation and vinification are the traditional ones, that has turned out to be a smart choice to promote the quality, subsequently further refined and elaborated by the use of French oak barrels.

The types of products are Friulano, Chardonnay, Schiopettino, Pinot Gris, Pignolo, Ribolla Gialla, Refosco, Verduzzo, Montsclapade (a Bordeaux blend based on Merlot and Cabernet), Sauvignon and Raisin Picolit.

Great innovation was to introduce the Guyot system of viticulture with very high density, which leads Girolamo to implement vineyards with about 10,000 vines on a hectare of land.

In 1976 he created the first plant of native Pignolo grape variety, completely sunk into oblivion by the winemakers of Friuli because of low yields, but now known even on an international level.

The Montsclapade, as well as all other red wines of the Prestige line, is aged in a clever mix of old and new oak barrels for 24 months and after bottling for another 6 months to get the right balance between structure and soft tannins.

In recent years the continuity of the winery is represented by his son Alessio, winemaker, and Cristina, his wife.

The headquarters was moved to Bellazoia, a fraction of Povoletto, in a structure that is perfectly integrated with the surrounding hills.

The production amounts to 100,000 bottles of wine per year, of which over 60% is sold abroad.

For years Dorigo has been receiving numerous awards in various types of products that begin with the Risit D’Aur in 1979 and culminate with the Golden Star 2013 for the Blanc de Noir.

Another novelty is the line called the Rocca dei Celti, which is thought for a market that is growing, that of the younger generation who are approaching wine as a hobby and not for fashion.

The reviews of the most important magazines, of the industry and not, testify the quality of the wines, in this case also punctuated by &lduqo;Wine Spectator” that the United States consider the bible of wine.

Currently the lines of the wines are Prestige, which includes Chardonnay, Ronc di Juri, Montsclapade, Pignolo, Refosco d.p.r.e Tazzelenghe. La Color con Pinot Grigio, Ribolla Gialla, Sauvignon, Traminer, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Refosco e Schiopettino.
