In 1899 excavations began to reclaim the area of I Piani, characterized by a thick layer of sandstone, as well as trachyte and limestone, which would have prevented the normal development of the vines. Some thousands of boulders of various sizes were removed one by one by highly advanced machines for those times.
Today, of that work of titanic proportions only some sandstone rocks remain, employed for a landscape purpose, that characterize the estate in a way that is unique in the world. A great overhead bridge built with only a few hundred of these large stones stands at the center of the estate: from above you can appreciate its extension and the respect of some natural areas that still today live together with the vineyards.
