The Vasari farm, located on the hills of the Santa Lucia del Mela town of art, in the province of Messina (300 meters above sea level), is a production reality existing for over 400 years: certified as organic since 1990, which still today produces one of the wines historically among the most ancient in the world: Mamertino DOC, the wine preferred by the emperor Julius Caesar who, already at that time, considered it among his four favorite wines, so much that he offered it to his diners to toast to his third consulate (46 BC). The Vasari company represents the recent history of the Mamertino wine, that for over 40 years has been the first to point to his revaluation making of it a trademark until 2003. Today, as then, Vasari Mamertino DOC is the showpiece of this DOC both in Italy and in the world, today in the TOP HUNDRED of Italian wines (ranked among the top one hundred Italian wines of 2013), as witnessed by various wine experts and by reviews of the wine industry (Luca Maroni, Veronelli, Bibenda AIS Guide, Il Mio Vino).
All our wines are produced with grapes of native Sicilian vines, grown with organic methods of cultivation. White Mamertino is a blend of Catarratto, Inzolia and Grillo; while with red grapes two types of Mamertino are produced: Mamertino Nero d’Avola in single–variety and Mamertino Rosso. This latter is a blend of Nero d’Avola and Nocera. Nocera is the typical grape variety grown only in the Province of Messina, a grape variety that characterizes and makes unique Mamertino Rosso. Of each type of Mamertino, reserves are produced, that come to light after aging for 2 years in oak barrels of 25 hecotliters plus at least 6 months of aging in bottle before release. All great wines of superior quality are the 6 types of Mamertino DOC produced by the Vasari company with organic grapes of Sicilian native varieties, with excellent value for money and, in accordance with the principle of the protection of consumer health, with very low content of sulphites. All our wines are also suitable for coeliacs and vegetarians/vegans.
Sicilian excellences of unique and authentic flavors are produced in respect of the environment and tradition but with innovation. Not to be missed. Why? Life is too short to drink mediocre wine.
