A small organic farm in the heart of Tuscany. One of the many small Italian companies that, despite the difficult period, work with passion and commitment, obtaining excellent quality products so as to keep the deserved reputation of Italian wine high abroad. The Poggio la luna company is the realization of a dream of its founder Elisabetta Tommasoni who in 2012 took over, very close to the Terme di Saturnia, a small abandoned company but with great potential. A difficult terrain, in the middle of the Mediterranean scrub full of wild animals such as wild boars, foxes, roe deer, hares and pheasants, a stony and perfect terrain for the vine! The company is managed with the minimum use of mechanical means and chemicals, the vines coexist with bees that help keep the bunches clean as well as producing excellent honey. On a vineyard area of only 4Ha Elisabetta, with Francesco Rossi agronomist and oenological consultant of the company, breeds Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo, Merlot, Petit Verdot and among the whites Vermentino, Chardonnay and Viogner. An ancient Sangiovese vineyard with an intense blue fruit rich in polyphenols is carefully recovered from a state of neglect and is now prosperous and luxuriant: L'UNO derives a wine from the DOC Maremma Toscana. From the new vineyards shortly The Company will market two new labels, a Syrah doc Maremma Toscana aged in barrique and a Morellino di Scansano docg. In the cellar Elisabetta works according to the ethics of minimal intrusion, looking at the heritage of the terroir as decisive in forming the character of the wine. "A good wine is made above all on the plant, it is Nature that gives it to us!". The cellar practices are intended to accompany the grapes in the most natural transformation possible, limiting handling to a minimum. A good wine creates the perfect meeting between nature and the human factor. The importance of the moon: it is no coincidence that we chose Poggio la Luna as the name of the company, not only because when the moon rises or sets it seems to caress our vineyards with its rays, but also because, as our old farmers have always known , the moon has a great influence on all stages of wine making. We are always very careful to carry out all agricultural operations in harmony with the lunar rhythms: as usual, wines that will have to face a long aging are bottled with the waning moon and with the crescent moon the sparkling wines and with the full moon the others , but never bottle with the black moon or when it rains.
