In the Hofstatter Estate the most well–known grape varieties in South Tyrol are grown. They have the undeniable privilege to name the vineyards placed on both sides of the river Adige.
It is exactly the work in the vineyards that leads continuously the producer to new challenges: decades of monoculture have exhausted the land, have deprived it of life, that life needed by vines to stay healthy and develop all their strength. And what they need is strength, today more than ever, for the alternation of extreme weather conditions.
Lately the word terroir is used as a slogan, as if it were a fixed concept, but that is actually subjected to changes which winemakers must take into account well in advance in their work between the vine rows. They have to understand, respect and harmonize all the elementary preconditions for the growth of a vine of excellence, unique and full of character.
Only in this way, even better grapes can be obtained from a vineyard that has already been producing good grapes for a long time.
Hofstatter is already working, without knowing the details first, on how we can better face the ecological challenges at the global level starting from a small living reality such as a vineyard.
