Our passion, experience and tradition have met those of the Orfino family, through the marriage of Rosa Orfino and Filippo Petrera (fourth generation) and in 1988 appears, in the small cellar dug into the rock, the first bottle of the 1987 vintage marked Fatalone.

The corporate brand originates from Filippo Petrera (second generation), son of Nicola, who was at the time dubbed “Il Fatalone”. Quickly became the nickname of the family, “Fatalone”, in local parlance, means “seducer” or “one who can boast an irresistible charm on women”, a bit like the legendary Don Giovanni. Filippo Petrera lived until he was 98 years old, between Bacchus and Venus, having breakfast every morning even to his last day with half a liter of fresh milk and half a liter of Primitivo wine.

In 1987, at the beginning as bottlers, we were the first to launch the challenge of vinifying and bottling Primitivo grapes in single–variety. In 1993 also Greco came, for the desire to test ourselves with this noble white grape variety.

In 2000, our vocation for the promotion and development of the area led us to create the Consortium for the Protection and Promotion of the Gioia del Colle DOC wines.

Ours is a small family–run farm, always strictly devoted to the practice of organic farming as a lifestyle, not as a form of business trend, with respect for nature and for all living beings, first and foremost for ourselves. As a guarantee of our activity, since 2000 we have placed ourselves under the control of the Ethical and Environmental Certification Institution, which certifies our organic production, even according to the American standards of the N.O.P. (National Organic Program).
