Luciano Sandrone Company is dedicated to the production of Nebbiolo in the areas of Barolo and Roero with the highest levels of quality. Each bottle of wine by Sandrone, made with the same careful attention to traditional craftsmanship, is supported by modern techniques and work by hand.
The three Nebbiolo bottlings are unique and reflect the perfect combination of terroir, vineyards and the Sandrone winery. They are three distinct expressions of a single vision and the purpose, and each is the result of an interaction between nature and a careful vinification. None of these wines is inferior to its brothers in any way. Valmaggiore has an amazing bouquet, elegance and sophistication in a relatively light structure, so characteristic of Roero. Barolo Cannubi Boschis is the perfect expression of a good exposure, and pureness, concentrated fruit and tannins. Barolo Le Vigne pays homage to the historically significant style of the wine blend, through its complex and layered structure that unfolds with patience and concentration.
The aim of Sandrone is to produce wines that reflect the history of the culture and the winemaking traditions of Barolo and Roero, while incorporating the best and most appropriate modern technology to make balanced wines, ageworthy in their single variety feature, elegance and harmony.
In this beautiful and characteristic house, located just outside the village of Barolo, along the road that leads to Monforte, the tradition and the modern history of Barolo are at home. This, thanks to both the work of the current owner, Giuseppe Rinaldi, for everyone, more simply, Citrico (Critic), a veterinary devoted to viticulture and oenology, an extraordinary storyteller and considered by everyone one of the most original, smart and especially free minds of the Langa of Barolo, and, above all, thanks to the figure and the work of the person that preceded Beppe in the management of the company: his father, Battista Rinaldi.
It was him, whose moral rectitude and the severity have become legendary, to make this company one of the brands of reference of the classic Barolo, taking over the company in 1947, at age 29, following the death of his father arrived in Barolo from Diano d’Alba and buyer, along with Barale, of the I Palas farm by a farmer of the Falletti family.
He graduated with honors at the School of Enology in Alba, Battista Rinaldi, who was also appreciated the Mayor of Barolo from 1970 to 1975 who, during his administration period, made the Castle of Barolo become municipal property, and firstly the seat of the municipal winehouse, then of “Enoteca Regionale del Barolo”, of which he became the first president. He had the good fortune, and the burden, because dealing with large vineyards is never easy and requires a true spirit of service to the Land, to inherit a few hectares in terroir of particular value like Brunate, Le Coste, Ravera and Cannubi San Lorenzo. The grapes are vinified in different ways: Brunate in single variety, to be used in a special reserve kept for ten years in the cellar in bottles before being poured into bottles by seven tenths, the other three to compose, according to the most authentic historical traditions of Barolo, a calibrated blending.
Joined the company to support, with a well–known critical attitude about many things, his father, Beppe Rinaldi leads the winery today (waiting that his eldest daughter Marta, born in 1985, takes over the company, once finished the wine school Alba and discusses, herself too, with Beppe), with the same traditional and classic footprint, free from any modernism, changing things only the two preparations of Barolo. Since 1993, no more a Barolo based on vitages and a Brunate reserve, but two pairs of blendings of different grapes always by the 4 hectares of vineyards of historic properties: on the one hand, Brunate and Le Coste (10,000 bottles) and on the other hand, in the second but not less important wine, Cannubi San Lorenzo and Ravera (from vineyards in Novello), produced in 3,500 bottles.
Identical and classic vinification with long maceration on the skins, and fining, which of course was never touched by the temptation to be make it in small vats, but in large Slavonian oak casks dear to the history and the identity of Barolo. Wine is not meant to be consumed young, but has all the features, in terms of tannic structure, acidity and freshness, as well as aromatic elegance, to defy time.
The range of wines complemented by a Langhe Nebbiolo wine (100% Nebbiolo of course), from the Langhe Freisa, Dolcetto d&rsuqo;Alba, Barbera d’Alba, and a table wine called Rosae (produced with a grape variety, perhaps originating in Burgundy, land that Beppe Rinaldi knows and loves, called Rouch).
Comm. G.B. Burlotto winehouse is still a family–run firm, where all stages of production, from the vineyard, to the winery, to the commercialization (a total production of around 60,000 bottles), are minded by the current owner, Marina Burlotto, great–granddaughter of the Commendatore, flanked by her husband Giuseppe Alessandria (responsible for the winemaking sector) and their son Fabio, who graduated in viticulture and oenology, to whom we owe the introduction of some modern technical solutions, in harmony and combination with the experience of the best tradition.
Aware and proud of a tradition that is so important and deeply rooted in the history of Barolo and of the Langhe wines, even operating in our time, with the knowledge and methodologies permitted by the evolution of agronomic and oenological techniques, we seek to comply as best as we can and to revive the spirit of guidance and the insights that inspired the work of the Commendatore. We offer wines of today which reflect and enhance the peculiarities of the terroir of Verduno, which has always produced wines of great balance and elegance, extremely pleasant to drink young, but capable, especially in the case of Barolo, and the cru Monvigliero in particular, to evolve harmoniously and to give refined nuances.
The agricultural company of the Pasquero house is located in Bricco Gatti, on the top of a hill in the early years of the 900. In line with the local peasant spirit, the Tarabra–Pasquero family cultivated lands of property with mixed cultures and a very high subdivision of the land. All this was enough at the time of an adequate sustenance of a rural family.
Before Tarabra, and then Maggiorino, continue a respectable life made of daily challenges in harmony with nature. Pinin, considered one of the most sage of the village, is remembered for his high stature, also moral, and his mentality of broad views. Maggiorino is a great lover of horses, and in addition to the tow–horses for the rural labor he cultivates his passion for cart–horses and ponies for his children.
The true soul of the company remains, as often happens, Clementina, daughter of Pinin and wife of Maggiorino. She structures and educates the entire household and still follows, now with a reassured eye, the work done by her son Michelangelo.
Michelangelo, Miklo for friends, has always been interested in working at home and in the countryside. The youngest of six brothers, after finishing his studies in Agriculture with specialization in the care and defense of the plants, was geared toward working at home, with particular attention to the organic.
In 1994, therefore, the first real vintage of Hilberg Pasquero wines was produced, a vintage now hard to find. Do not hesitate to come to the winery to taste it (so we can explain certain peculiarities of those years) and, most importantly, taste it again for the last time.
Angelo Rocca is continuing in Barbaresco the work, in the vineayard and in the winery, of the many generations of his family, who started their business at the beginning of the twentieth century.
As a vinegrower and winemaker, he has always tried, with accuracy, to combine and confront tradition with the new proposals of the modern processing and technology.
With this new focus point, Angelo Rocca went on developing his company, first of all from the vinegrowing point of view, leading the current surface cultivated with vines to 18 hectares, located mostly in Barbaresco, but with interesting offshots also in Neive and in the small San Rocco Seno d’Elvio district, in the municipality of Alba, but still within the area of Barbaresco.
Beyond Nebbiolo from Barbaresco, which remains the vine to which Angelo is especially bonded, in the farm Barbera, Dolcetto, Cortese and Chardonnay are also grown. Globally the production is around 106,000 bottles of wine, distributed with scurpololousness in the most exclusive stores and restaurants all over the world.
Family–run company, founded as a winery by father Pasquale, who was one of the first producers of Neive to sell wine in bottles, debuting with his first label in 1974 with the Barbaresco of 1971, the year in which the first of his three daughters was born. Pasquale was a conservative in the processing of the must, but open to new trends and technologies both in the winery and regarding the work in the vineyards. The work in the vineyard was followed exclusively by Pasquale himself, unfortunately departed in September 2007 and, his daughter Ornella, now, with the help of her family, does her best to continue the company management following in her father’s footsteps. The plants in the vineyard are true gems and are visited also by the producers of the area.
The farmhouse is located on top of a hill surrounded by 8 hectares of vineyards of property, in one of the most beautiful and suited areas of Neive. The total production is about 20,000 bottles a year.

Since 1997, when Renato Vacca decided to vinify on his own his grapes previously sold to producers of Barbaresco, the denomination was enriched with a new protagonist.
This, thanks not only to the passion of the producer, but also to the vineyards located in their major part in the cru Ovello: limestones with veins of sand with a high content of calcium at 300 meters above sea level, facing south–southwest.
The vines have an average age of 40 years (but some are 70).
From here two wines that we review come (the others are not ready yet): Barbaresco 2004 and the very rich Ovello 2003, near to be awarded with the “5 Grappoli” (“5 Clusters”). They will be talked about in the future years.

A family linked to the territory, since the late 50s when Francesco, the father of Bruno Rocca, with his wife Maria Adelaide, moved from the center of Barbaresco to the Rabaj area, where he bought part of the vineyard. Thus began the growth of the company and the abandonment of sharecropping. Bruno, not yet of age, learned to recognize in grapes the true expression of the land and, after the first few decades when the product of the vineyard was sold almost entirely to the producers of Barbaresco, and vinified only in small part, from 1978 decided to make a change in his company. The enthusiasm of the wine market in full development saw as protagonist also the Rabaj Company by Bruno Rocca that, with the sale of wine in bottles, developed its name and image in the Italian and international scene. The philosophy of wine as a natural expression of the territory of Barbaresco was appreciated and the gradual growth led to the purchase of new plots and to the expansion of the winery, to the present day.

Cantina Enrico Serafino was founded in 1878 in Canale d’Alba, the main town in the heart of the Roero and a farming village rich in history, whose earliest records date back to the Middle Ages.
Founded by Enrico Serafino, businessman and landowner, the winery soon became one of the most important in Piedmont and among the first to sell the classic wines of the region throughout Italy and abroad.
In the 90s there was a complete modernization of the entire production system.
Since 2002, the entire production process is fully managed and monitored internally with cutting–edge facilities for grape pressing, winemaking and bottling.
There are few cases in which a producer, in the space of 20 years, has managed to become one of the most prestigious and popular vigneron in the world. Roberto Voerzio has achieved this result thanks to his tenacity in pursuing the highest quality, without compromise. Roberto is a worker of the vineyard, and he believes that everything depends on this. His work in the vineyard is meticulous, almost obsessive, and this lets him take from it, with a mortifying thinning, a substance of such purity that his wines are always better than others. Within a few years, Roberto managed to acquire some of the most famous crus of the Barolo district, in the hilly area of the town of La Morra e Barolo. In the early 80s he was among the first vinegrowers in Langa to radically reinterpret the work in the vineyard, before creating new high–density plants, then doing a meticulous work among the rows, opting for a drastic reduction in yield per hectare, in favor of a raw material of high quality. Who, at the time, walked in his lands, thought he was mad: all those grapes on the ground! Today from his vineyards, curated as gardens, extraordinary wines come, great as any other else for steadiness and quality, an example of elegance and interpretation of the terroir. A true model of total quality. Since the mid–nineties Roberto Voerzio, has been consistently at the top positions in all the world ranking of the most important publications in the sector, thanks to its magnificent Barolo, to which he was able to give a thoroughly modern and innovative mark, always in the rut of the tradition.
