The Consortium for the Defense of Typical and Valuable Wines of the Brescia Province was founded in 1962, with the aim to protect and enhance the wines of the Province. A few years later, with the foundation of the Designation, it became Consortium for the Protection of the Brescia Wines with Controlled Designation of Origin. The efforts were awarded in 1968 with the recognition, at a European level, of the Designation of Controlled Origin (DOC) Cellatica.
The Consortium for the Protection of the Brescia Wines with Controlled Designation of Origin became, since 1990, “Ente Vini Bresciani”. Currently the Consortium for the Protectiono of the Brescia Wines supports and coordinates the individual consortia, founded on that date in order to protect the local DOC, represents and manages the interests of the public. Within the Ente Vini Bresciani, each associated Consortium (including the Cellatica Wines Consortium) maintains its own autonomy and individuality, also to enhance the peculiarities of the wines produced in different areas.
Botticino: a small DOC area adjacent to Brescia and famous in the world for its marble, also used for the construction of the White House and the Altare della Patria in Rome. Here the vineyards clinging to the sunny slopes of the pre–Alps heroically survive the urban pressure, protecting the environment and the inestimable heritage of tradition and culture related to wine.
The warm climate and the favorable soil exposures create the perfect environment for the production of red wines of great structure, suitable for the medium aging and rich and savory food, such as game and roasts.
Botticino is obtained from a careful blend of Barbera (min. 30%), a widespread grape variety in the world for its positive attitude to aging and the structure that confers, Marzemino (min. 20%), a local variety which contributes significantly to the color, the aroma typicality and the body, Sangiovese (min. 10%), the most widespread grape variety in Italy, providing pleasant aromatic elegance and softness to the taste, and Schiava Gentile in small percentage (min. 10%) to add a touch of freshness.
The best lots of Botticino can acquire the designation of Reserve if aged, also in oak barrels, for at least two years.
The Consortium for the protection of Franciacorta with its unmistakable logo – a crenellated “F”, the symbol of the ancient medieval towers that characterize the area, was founded on March 5th, 1990 in Corte Franca, in the province of Brescia, as aggregation of a group of winemakers who shared passion and common stimuli, primarily interested in the protection, enhancement and promotion of the Franciacorta wine–growing and of the territory as a whole. It is an inter–professional organization, independent, able to provide the support services, of image, of aggregation, strong and equal for all.
To the Consortium, which since 1993 has its headquarters in Erbusco, in the heart of Franciacorta, the three professional categories of growers, winemakers and bottlers who are interested in the production chain of the designations Franciacorta DOCG, Curtefranca DOC and Sebino IGT adhere. There are companies of all sizes, from small, family–run businesses, to structured and well–known in the world companies. The member companies of the Consortium of Franciacorta represent almost the totality of those active in the area and are on the market especially with the main product of this wine–growing area: Franciacorta, the first and the only Italian brut produced exclusively with the second fermentation in the bottle to have obtained from 1st September 1995 the DOCG, the Designation of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin.
Ente Vini Bresciani represents and manages the general interests of the common D.O.P. Garda Classico, Valtnesi, Garda Bresciano, S. Martino della Battaglia, Botticino, Capriano del Colle, Cellatica and finally I.G.P. Valcamonica, Ronchi di Brescia, Benaco Bresciano and Montenetto di Brescia.
Together with the associated Consortia (Botticino Consortium, Cellatica Consortium, Valtnesi/Garda Classico Consortium, Montenetto/Capriano del Colle Consortium and Valcamonica I.G.T. Consortium), where everyone maintains autonomy and individuality, and also thanks to the fundamental consociation with the Chamber of Commerce of Brescia, Ente Vini Bresciani manages the policy of the Designations and takes care of the Specifications, promotes the knowledge of the Wines and their aware consumption enhancing their territories of origin, their history and their ability to interpret the present and the future with the style of each single company in the respect for tradition.
Thanks to the experience gained in over 40 years of activity, Ente Vini Bresciani has employed highly experienced and trained in the wine sector operators and, directly or in cooperation with public institutions such as the Province of Brescia, research organizations such as the Provincial Wine Center or Regional Consortia in the wine sector like AS.CO.VI.LO, offers to the Consortia of Wine Protection qualified performances for the realization of informative activities promoted by the Consortia themselves.
Ente Vini Bresciani, for some promotional activities, works directly with the Franciacorta Consortium and the Lugana Consortium.
The Garda Classico D.O.C. coincides largely with the area that overlooks the Brescia side of Lake Garda. A territory where the cultivation of the vine has ancient origins, which lie even in pre–Roman times. This deep–rooted tradition in 1967 resulted in obtaining the "Garda Bresciano" D.O.C., later integrated into the Garda D.O.C.. Since 1996, the area has obtained the recognition of the word "Classico" granted, as known, only to the wines of old and established tradition. Today, the Garda Classico D.O.C. is a sub–area which has 550 hectares of vineyards, worked by about eighty producers for a total of about 3,500 tons of grapes produced each year. The production is currently more than 2 million bottles.
Garda Classico is synonymous especially red wines, and in particular with Groppello, the native vine that is a real exclusive wine of the area as it is cultivated in appreciable quantities only in the hills of Valtnesi, the productive "heart" of the area. From this particular grape variety, Garda Classico Groppello D.O.C. and the Garda Classico Chiaretto D.O.C., the two most known and appreciated products of the Riviera, are made.
In the Garda Classico D.O.C. Consortium, recently also the small San Martino della Battaglia D.O.C. merged, which covers mainly with the municipalities of Pozzolengo, Sirmione, Desenzano, Lonato and partially coincides with that of the Garda Classico. Recognized in 1970, this D.O.C. of 65 hectares of vineyards, on which a few dozen producers operate, brings the original contribution of a white wine, San Martino della Battaglia D.O.C. and a dessert wine, the San Martino della Battaglia Fortified wine.
Moreover, the types protected by the Consortium which fall into the Benaco Bresciano Typical Geographical Indication should not be forgotten: there are about 150 thousand bottles that companies use mainly for single–variety production that contribute to further enrich the profile of a dynamic segment, that is growing, which in recent years, thanks to the establishment of the Wine and Dine Route of Garda, is experiencing a new development of wine tourism.
Company of centuries–old rural traditions, Ricci Curbastro stands among the prominent realities of Franciacorta, thanks to an extensive and competitive range. We highlight the two Extra Brut, which reveal a cheerful and “snappy” structure, but not without character. Worth to be emphasizes is the step forward, compared to the last edition of the Brut Rosé, that shows grace and proportion of taste.
