The staff of Mosnel, skillfully headed by Giulio and Lucia Barzan, gave us the opportunity to evaluate a variegated range of wines, with really encouraging average scores. Leading the tasting, Franciacorta Emanuela Barboglio, which combines ductility and drinking immediacy and polychromatic complexity. Nice surprise Franciacorta Brut Rosé: clear, “joyful” and very persistent.

La Prendina agricultural company has a recent history in the wine sector, was purchased in 1958 and the cultivation of the vine, after deep changes in the hydrogeological features, was launched treasuring the experiences gained in Custoza by the owners. Even older are the first traces of the existence of Prendina as a farm. The cartography at the time of the Gonzaga family, lords of Mantua, records the existence of Prendina, more recent verbal testimonies testify the presence of a church and a tower, historically called “dovecote”, a typical square construction of three floors, which belongs to the existing buildings and currently is depicted in the company logo.
Initially, wines were sold under the Cavalchina brand, the first wine to bear the name of La Prendina was a Merlot bottled in 1980 for Gualtiero Marchesi. Even today Merlot is the grape variety that gives the best results.
Only in 1990 La Prendina became a completely autonomous brand. The affirmation of La Prendina is entrusted to its Bordeaux vineyards, and Il Vigneto del Falcone was the flagship wine of the company in guides, competitions and tastings.
Il Calepino company combines in its denomination the enological and cultural values of the hilly area called Valcalepio.
It was Angelo Plebani, in 1972, who designed and built the company, naming it with this curious name, inextricably linking his precious bottles and the famous encyclopedic friar.
In the Valcalepio DOC area, the Il Calepino company extends its vineyards on moraine terraces (called Sure), where vines always find a suitable home: the draining soil is ideal for obtaining an optimum state of ripeness of grapes and therefore wines of intense, complex and typical bouquet.
