– Here is the winery of Flumignano, where in September/October all the grapes produced arrive, with soft presses, automatic temperature control, winemaking in the absence of sulfur dioxide.
– Here is the modern bottling plant of San Giorgio della Richinvelda, that works in a sterile environment with a production of 3,000 bottles/hour, temperature controlled for an optimal preservation.
Our company is situated in the ancient Castle of Cosa, of which there are traces since the year one thousand, located a few kilometers from the small town of Spilimbergo, a well–renowed center of mosaic. This wonderful estate was built with aims of surveillance along the banks of the river Tagliamento, the biggest in the region, which divides it in two parts. Over the following centuries, it changed ownership many times. During the first world war, it became the seat of a garrison and was heavily bombed by the Austrian artillery during the retreat to the river Piave.
In 1921 it was rebuilt as an architectural structure, no longer fortress–like, but similar to a Palladian Villa. It became the property of a rich noble family from Friuli and after many vicissitudes was purchased in 1974 by Gian Franco Furlan and in 1978 became the seat of the wineries creating the CASTELCOSA brand. Today, more than the activity of wine production, the beautiful palace with its Venetian floors, large frescoes and spacious and elegant rooms, is used for exhibitions, concerts, conferences and weddings.
To accommodate customers and the many visitors who come to see us from all over the world, we have restored an old horse stable used as a guesthouse with a wide and characteristic tavern and the unmissable Fogolar, that has always been the heart of Friulian families. All surrounded by an ancient and very beautiful seventeenth century stone wall that encircles a park of centuries old trees where guests and visitors can rest and relax.
I Magredi company is located in the heart of Friuli Venezia Giulia, in the in the area of production of wines with Controlled Designation of Origin Friuli Grave, in the province of Pordenone. The uniqueness of the area where the company is situated is given by the soil rich in pebbles carried downstream by the rivers Cellina, Meduna and Tagliamento, which have created a strip of land with its own microclimate, with its own vegetation and environment, so special to be called “Magredi”, to which our company owes its name. The symbol of this land, strong and generous at the same time, therefore, is stone, as evidenced even at the entrance of our winery.

In 1951 the community of Rauscedo joined in a cooperative to which members bestowed the grapes cultivated on the territory. Cantina Rauscedo is not a business company, but a cooperative that unites people with their ideals of sharing and social cohesion. Its strength lies in the values and in the spirit that gave the founders the intuition of a whole country, made up of people, families and individuals, that would become over the years a solid reality for the production of an authentic wine, that comes from rocky soils. For more than 10 years I have been cultivating the land of Ganga following the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture, trying to put the utmost attention on respecting the environment in which I work and live with my family. The management of the vineyards, from winter pruning to grape harvesting, is strictly manual. Pesticides for the defense against fungal diseases and parasites, as well as for the control of weeds, are banned. Not just no chemical fertilizers and weeding but sowing of poly essences, mowing and targeted green manure. The microbiological heritage of the soil is also enriched by contributions of self-produced compost with pruning waste. For several years, in collaboration with important European research centers, I have been developing cutting-edge methods to protect the vineyard ecosystem. Active ingredients authorized in organic viticulture, such as copper and sulfur, are used in micro doses and exclusively in particularly unfavorable years from a meteorological point of view. The use of herbal teas and macerates of herbs and plants or cynals, grown within the company, integrates the defense of the vine from cryptogams, in which microbiology is once again the master. Bacteria and fungi with defense and nutrition functions. Since July 2012 I have started the certification procedure of the organic production method with the BIOS control body. In the cellar, the processing of the grapes is carried out in an extremely delicate way, observing and conducting without exasperated intervention.
