Consorzio Tutela Vini Matera Doc

The Consortium for the Protection of the Matera DOC Wines was formed as a result of the ministerial recognition, received in July 2005, of the DOC for the wines produced in the Province of Matera which include Matera, the municipalities of the Matera Hills and the territory of the Ionian coast of Metaponto.



The techniques used today by the companies of the Consortium are among the best in the agricultural sector, practices aimed to preserve and enhance the soil characteristics and the organoleptic properties of their products, in full respect of sustainability.

The Consortium is the story of some small wineries in the D’Agri Valley who wanted to take up the challenge of preserving and enhancing the tradition which has so far remained private and exclusive heritage of the peasants.



In 2002, soon gained recognition of the DOC of the area, these winemakers in the Valley wanted to start as a free enterprise a Consortium for the Protection and Development in order to represent the highest institution for the protection of quality, to promote in an organic and systematic way the already recognized wine, and self–discipline by establishing the essential criteria to protect the wine of this extraordinary area.



Today the consortium has 14 members but many others are on the verge of joining, organizing for bottling or for the conferment of grapes.

Consorzio di Tutela Vino Aglianico Del Vulture Doc

Aglianico del Vulture is a red wine made from Aglianico grapes grown in the area of Vulture, which is located in the northwest Basilicata in the province of Potenza. In the year 1971 it has been awarded the designation of controller origin (DOC) and in 2010 the designation of controlled and guaranteed origin (DOCG) as "Aglianico del Vulture Superiore". Aglianico is one of the best Italian wines and represents, as similar in production and taste, the Barolo of the South.


In addition to Aglianico del Vulture DOC there are also other wines without the DOC mark, such as the sweet Aglianico, a dessert wine with a good body, and Aglianico di Filiano, that is grown in Filiano, a small village south of the Vulture.


The Aglianico del Vulture wine has a ruby garnet red color; a fragrant and vinous scent, with hints of strawberry and raspberry; a dry, fruity and harmonious flavor. 11.5 to 13% alcohol. Aglianico is considered old after at least 3 years of reserve and after at least 5 years of aging in oak barrels. Excellent with meats and roasts.


The Aglianico grape variety was brought to Italy by the name of Hellenica, by the Greeks. The Romans called it Ellenico and used it to improve the quality of Falerno, a wine much loved by the poets of those days. In the fifteenth century, under the rule of the Aragonese, it was called Aglianico.

Mantegna Vini

Mantegna Vini is a company born from the idea of an entrepreneur from Lucania, successful in the industrial sector of the Emilia Romagna region, who decided in 2000 to exploit a family plot of land on the most important hill of the town with a vineyard of Aglianico grapes. In the following years, Domenico Amenta, given the results of his good wine produced, realized immediately that in these hills of the town of Irsina called Serra di Gianni and Serra dei Monaci there were all the characteristics to make good wine.

He, then, decided between 2001 and 2002 to buy, near his vineyard, an old farmhouse to be restored and a few hectares of land to plant more vines of the same variety.

In 2004 his first production started, with good results in spite of the young vineyard.

In 2005, in collaboration with his son Davide Amenta, almost 150,000 bottles of Aglianico red and Aglianico white were vinified from red grapes and grapes from the hills of Matera Greco, Montepulciano, Trebbiano and Malvasia.

In 2008 the renowned oenologist from Avellino Angelo Antonio Valentino joined the company.
