Ca’ Viola farm was founded in 1991 in Montelupo Albese, a small rural town located in the heart of the Langhe area, on the hills around Alba, a town that has always been considered the main center of Langhe.
In September 2001, the production winery was transferred to Dogliani, famous for having been the village where the statesman Luigi Einaudi lived and worked, and now increasingly known for the production of the excellent Dolcetto DOC that is emerging as one of the best wines ever in the varied landscape of Piedmont.
The new, prestigious seat is located in a villa of the nineteenth century, completely renovated preserving the architectural features of that period and in complete harmony with the environment.
The company owner is Giuseppe Caviola, a well known oenologist appreciated for his activity of consultant at important wineries.
Caviola, who is also responsible for the technical management of the winery, avails himself of the collaboration of his partner Maurizio Anselmo, regarding the vinegrowing activity, and is ssisted by a determined and passionate young man: Alessandro Scarrone.
The viticultural practices are implemented directly by Maurizio and Alessandro, with the aim of a continuous quality improvement, and are planned under the supervision of two agronomists of recognized reputation and expertise: Federico Curtaz and Gian Piero Romana, Beppe’s friends, who collaborate also in other vinegrowing and winemaking realities – not only in Piedmont.
To complete the company’s workforce, Caviola’s wife, Simonetta, who deals with the administration of Ca’ Viola.

Cavallirio is one fo the municipalities in the Novara area included in the Doc of the Boca wine, a designation forgotten for a long time, but that in those last years has regained vigour. Among the producers who believe and are investing in the ancient Boca wine, Sergio Barbaglia stands out, flanked with enthusiasm by his children. They are recovering some hilly areas situated in the natural park of Monte Fenera, to plant new vineyards of Nebbiolo and Erbaluce. There are some bureaucratic problems to solve, related to the zone where the abandonment of the vineyards, now almost centuries old, has left space to woods and wild boars. But the willingness is stronger than bureaucracy and we hope not to have to wait for a long time to taste these wines, produced in a decisively special territory.
Marchesi di Barolo is a historic winery that has been producing quality wines for over two centuries. It is renowned for its traditional winemaking methods that have been passed down through generations. Their vineyards are located in prime areas, and the winery has a wide range of grape varieties, each contributing to its unique flavor. Marchesi di Barolo wines are known for their elegance, finesse, and aging potential, making them highly sought after by wine enthusiasts around the world.
This year the Ottiglio Monferrato company presents a more complete range, with two Monferrato, a red and a white wines of good structure and balance, where international vine varieties, Pinot Nero and Viognier, not so usual on these hills, are blended. The Angelino brothers have been running the winery since 1995, while in 1790 the company was founded, which now produces also hazelnuts, walnuts, olives and essences. The structure is on four levels, the latest carved in tuff stone. Limestone soils, plants with an average life span of 20 years, exposure to south and sout–west, dense plants and yields below 70 quintals a hectare. Wines are not filtered.

The three Nebbiolo bottlings are unique and reflect the perfect combination of terroir, vineyards and the Sandrone winery. None of these wines is inferior to its brothers in any way. Valmaggiore has an amazing bouquet, elegance and sophistication in a relatively light structure, so characteristic of Roero. Barolo Cannubi Boschis is the perfect expression of a good exposure, and pureness, concentrated fruit and tannins. Barolo Le Vigne pays homage to the historically significant style of the wine blend, through its complex and layered structure that unfolds with patience and concentration.
The aim of Sandrone is to produce wines that reflect the history of the culture and the winemaking traditions of Barolo and Roero, while incorporating the best and most appropriate modern technology to make balanced wines, ageworthy in their single variety feature, elegance and harmony.
In this beautiful and characteristic house, located just outside the village of Barolo, along the road that leads to Monforte, the tradition and the modern history of Barolo are at home. This, thanks to both the work of the current owner, Giuseppe Rinaldi, for everyone, more simply, Citrico (Critic), a veterinary devoted to viticulture and oenology, an extraordinary storyteller and considered by everyone one of the most original, smart and especially free minds of the Langa of Barolo, and, above all, thanks to the figure and the work of the person that preceded Beppe in the management of the company: his father, Battista Rinaldi.
It was him, whose moral rectitude and the severity have become legendary, to make this company one of the brands of reference of the classic Barolo, taking over the company in 1947, at age 29, following the death of his father arrived in Barolo from Diano d’Alba and buyer, along with Barale, of the I Palas farm by a farmer of the Falletti family.
He graduated with honors at the School of Enology in Alba, Battista Rinaldi, who was also appreciated the Mayor of Barolo from 1970 to 1975 who, during his administration period, made the Castle of Barolo become municipal property, and firstly the seat of the municipal winehouse, then of “Enoteca Regionale del Barolo”, of which he became the first president. He had the good fortune, and the burden, because dealing with large vineyards is never easy and requires a true spirit of service to the Land, to inherit a few hectares in terroir of particular value like Brunate, Le Coste, Ravera and Cannubi San Lorenzo. The grapes are vinified in different ways: Brunate in single variety, to be used in a special reserve kept for ten years in the cellar in bottles before being poured into bottles by seven tenths, the other three to compose, according to the most authentic historical traditions of Barolo, a calibrated blending.
Joined the company to support, with a well–known critical attitude about many things, his father, Beppe Rinaldi leads the winery today (waiting that his eldest daughter Marta, born in 1985, takes over the company, once finished the wine school Alba and discusses, herself too, with Beppe), with the same traditional and classic footprint, free from any modernism, changing things only the two preparations of Barolo. Since 1993, no more a Barolo based on vitages and a Brunate reserve, but two pairs of blendings of different grapes always by the 4 hectares of vineyards of historic properties: on the one hand, Brunate and Le Coste (10,000 bottles) and on the other hand, in the second but not less important wine, Cannubi San Lorenzo and Ravera (from vineyards in Novello), produced in 3,500 bottles.
Identical and classic vinification with long maceration on the skins, and fining, which of course was never touched by the temptation to be make it in small vats, but in large Slavonian oak casks dear to the history and the identity of Barolo. Wine is not meant to be consumed young, but has all the features, in terms of tannic structure, acidity and freshness, as well as aromatic elegance, to defy time.
The range of wines complemented by a Langhe Nebbiolo wine (100% Nebbiolo of course), from the Langhe Freisa, Dolcetto d&rsuqo;Alba, Barbera d’Alba, and a table wine called Rosae (produced with a grape variety, perhaps originating in Burgundy, land that Beppe Rinaldi knows and loves, called Rouch).
