My name is Elisa and I have the pleasure to welcome you at Colombera. We are in the small village of Who, only 5 km far from Tortona. Our 20 hectares of vineyards are located close to the wineries and are the very heart of COLOMBERA.
The passion we have for the work of vinegrowers and winemakers, leads us to pursuit grapes of the highest quality. Grapes of each single vineyard are vinified separately. Our labels represent only and exclusively a particularly suited vineyard and that has an average age of 25 years. Young vines are devoted to the production of wines sold in bulk directly at the winery and to individuals.
My grandfather Renato arrived at Cascina Colombera in 1937, after the ruin of his farmstead.
Piercarlo, his son, soon developed a passion for the work of his father, joined him in the vineyards but prefered to work in the fields on tractors and harvesters. Since the 70s the vinegrowing activity of the company took on more importance, and Piercarlo, my dad, understood that there may be a turning point, decided not to sell his grapes to the cooperative winery and began to make on his own his first wines. Over the years he refined his technique in the winery thanks to experience and valuable advice.
He sold all the wines he produced directly to individuals, who arrived at Colombera through word of mouth of friends and acquaintances.
In 1997 he began to think to enlarge a little the company, there were 14 hectares of vineyards and a new project.
In 1998 the great turning point in Colombera started. The first label of the company, “Elisa”, was launched: a Barbera from Vigna Brus, that my dad dedicated to me. In 1998 we began to plant Timorasso in different parts of our lands, up to five vineyards of Timorasso.
With the 2000 vintage our projects took shape, we vinifed for the first time Timorasso and more ... the courteous BRICCO BARTOLOMEO, our most known Barbera VEGIA RAMPANA, and SUCIAJA. Since 2000, together with all the producers of Timorasso of the Tortona hills, the Derthona project was launched: each company, with its own grapes, proposes a Derthona wine, that represents the grape variety and the territory of the Tortona hills. Derthona Timorasso, Timorasso Coli Tortonesi.
In 2003 ARCHE’, the Croatina, was created.
Between 2000 and 2005 I accomplished the sensory analysis of all the ripe Timorasso grapes, and among the five vineyards I chose Montino, as in my period of study it has always given the best grapes. In 2006, for the first time, we vinify separately the Montino grapes, and in this way the Timorasso that represents Colombera is produced.

Giulio Cocchi Spumanti was founded by the passion of a young confectioner, when in Asti in 1889 his winery opened to the activities of liqueur and sparkling wine making. Giulio Cocchi began to produce wines with special aromas, out of which especially two recipes, Barolo Chinato and Aperitivo Americano, became famous already at the beginning of the twentieth century. For over thirty years the property has been of the Bava family of Cocconato d’Asti, who has given a new drive to the production of the company.
The winery has developed keeping its artisan feature based on skilled production of vintage sparkling wines made with Metodo Classico, Charmat sparkling wine and, obviously, Asti DOCG.
Cascina Pellegrino is a wine company rooted in the best Piedmontese traditions, founded by the Bono family and now run by son Cristiano and his partner Roberto Ghione. The Vineyards of property are spread in the municipalities of Canale, Monteu Roearo. S. Stefano Roero and Vezza d’Alba: areas that are highly suited to viticulture. Nebbiolo Carema Producers’ Winery was founded in 1960 by a small group of 18 farmers and developed to become the most qualified winery for the production and sale of Carema. The company is currently a cooperative made up of 78 members, almost all part–time producers, with an average age of 50/60 years. The production area of Carema is limited to the homonymous municipality, with an area of 17 hectares enrolled in the Doc Register. The recognition of D.O.C. goes back to 1967. Carema is sold also abroad, but because of its limited production and its strong features, it is still a wine particularly appreciated by skilled and experienced consumers. The vineyards located on typical terraces (topie or tupiun), supported by stone pillars on stone and lime (pilum), represent a work of art defined between romantic and gothic.
Carema is a nebbiolo that must be aged at least 3 years, 2 of which in oak or chestnut barrels. Its colour is red fading to garnet, its scent is intense, its minimum alcohol content required is of 12 degrees. The longevity of this wine is quite marked (even 20–30 years) as long as bottles are stored horizontally in dark and not too hot cellars. It should be served at room temperature (18–20°C), possibly uncorked a few hours before drinking or poured in jars. Carema is particularly suitable for roasts, game, red meats, aged cheese or as a “fireplace” wine, well suited to the end of a meal with nuts and dried fruit.

It has always been very careful about the importance of the terroir and has managed, with time, to select and then to buy large vineyards in the Barolo area: Rocche, Villero and Garblèt Suè in Castiglione Falletto and Ca’Mia and Brea in Serralunga d’Alba.
Thus, the philosophy of the Winery is to propose great personality Barolo wines, prodocued an vinified all in the same way, but with very specific and clean characteristics, always different among them. Barolo wines that faithfully reflect the richness of our great Langa vineyards.
