Mater Domini Estates was founded in 2003 by the synthesis of an entrepreneurial project by Pierandrea Serneraro, oriented to the enhancement of the agricultural and food resources of Salento, in particular wine and oil.
The concept of quality of the company is based on modern methods of agricultural production, with extreme attention to innovation, being aware of its roots.
Quality is not a subjective parameter, but a philosophy of striving for perfection, trying not to miss any detail and working with nature in the production of a single product.
The Salento peninsula, characterized by the influence of the two seas, is an excellent field of application and testing of the concept of terroir, ranging from climate and soil characteristics to those of the grape varieties, and also includes the peculiarities linked to the territory and especially to wine tradition.
A story that began twenty years ago, made of love for the land, passion for quality and competence of management. Cantine Due Palme, a cooperative company founded in 1989 in Cellino San Marco, in the province of Brindisi in high Salento, the project of Angelo Maci, the third generation of a family of winemakers, who with perseverance and dedication have made of this company one of the largest and most active cooperative complexes in Puglia and Southern Italy.
The company aims to enhance its own vineyards of ancient trees, to obtain a raw material of absolute concentration.
As a result, Old Vines, a single variety Primitivo of higher rank, is obtained by the selection of the best grapes in the over 75 years old vineyard, in which we have now added the new cru “La Signora”, the expression of an elegant style and at the same time representative of the typicality of Primitivo.
Finally, Primitivo Malbek is the result of an innovative blend and is pleasant to drink already when young, while showing a good development over time.
Ronco Calino is a winery that produces high-quality wines made from the finest grapes. Cantine Polvanera is a family-run winery committed to crafting high-quality, authentic and natural wines. Their approach to winemaking is rooted in a deep respect for the land and regional traditions. They only use grapes that are indigenous to the area and employ sustainable farming practices. With a focus on minimal intervention, their wines express the unique characteristics of the terroir, resulting in beautifully balanced and elegant wines that reflect the true essence of their region.
Monzio Compagnoni Srl is a family-owned winery that produces high-quality wines with a focus on traditional winemaking techniques. They have a range of red, white, and rosé wines made with locally grown grapes, which are carefully selected and hand-harvested to ensure optimal flavor and quality. The winery also has a deep respect for the environment and strives to minimize their impact through sustainable vineyard practices.
The range of the company, now limited to three products, is waiting for a Franciacorta Pas Dos whose output is expected by the end of 2009, the result of a work in the vineyard aimed to reduce the yields per hectare in order to concentrate the fruity and mineral material in grapes. Moreover, practices of wine maturation, entrusted only for a small part to barriques, seem to enhance the varietal traits of the used grapes.
Societa 'Agricola Monte Rossa S.R.L. is a winery dedicated to producing high-quality wines made from hand-selected grapes. Their vineyards are situated in a unique location, where the soil and climate are optimal for growing the finest grapes. The winery uses traditional winemaking techniques combined with modern technology to ensure their wines are outstanding in both flavor and aroma. They offer a wide range of prestigious wines, including red, white, and sparkling, all of which are characterized by their exquisite and distinctive taste.
We are located in High Salento, in the Carovigno area, where we have conceived the idea to create wines without using local vines, but to venture into something different and challenging.
With the support of Riccardo Cotarella, internationally renowned winemaker, we wanted to test the adaptation to the climate of Puglia and to these territories – a few kilometers from the sea – of non–local grapes.
Then, we planted 11 hectares of vineyards with Montepulciano, Aglianico and Petit Verdot grapes.
We adopted more slow and complex disciplinary, both in the treatment of soils (which were dug out, fertilized and rested) and the vineyard with only 400 vines per hectare, and in the maintenance of vines, mainly by hand and with dense thinning, so that to produce a bottle it is necessary to use grapes produced with three plants.
Lunachiena, Merula, Sorma Frauma, and Sierma are red wines that are appreciated for their individual olfactory nuances and for their important structure. Merula Rosa is a rosé of Provencal style, fresh and fruity.
Ours is a niche production, amounting to 35 thousand bottles per year.
Our wine comes from here. In the most wild and rugged part of the north–western part of Murgia, in a land where the history of mankind merges with the colors of nature.
Stone shapes the landscape, and is the undisputed queen of the environment, cluttered with stone walls, small houses, jazzi and rural churches. Sunny landscapes, however, are soften by aligned crops, fruit of the labor of man and of the austere beauty of a big lone oak. The contours of the hills are gentle, the autumn colors are warm, the small berries of the land north of Puglia are fragrant. Here our estate is located, just a few steps from the stunning harmonies of Castel del Monte, in the “Torre del Vento” district, where an ancient monastery of the eighteenth century, surrounded by 200 hectares of land, has been home to the heart of the company since 1948, the year in which the brothers Francesco and Domenico Liantonio bought the Torrevento Estate continuing the activity of producing wines that had seen its beginnings in 1920 in Palo del Colle.
Since then, a winemaking tradition of rural character has been handed down from generation to generation, and even today is the strength of our company.
In a rough and stony land, we recover and enhance native grape varieties suited to express the viticulture vocation of the whole territory of Puglia.
Large wine cellars carved into the rock of the Benedictine monastery preserve our precious wine, that ages in precious oak barrels and small barriques, according to the ancient local winemaking traditions, which today combine by more gentle winemaking techniques.

It has convinced us that Orvieto was a challenge to overcome, a card to play in total contrast with the market and with fashion. The vocation of the place, the history of the city and its region are the aspects that have given solidity to our choices.
The family keeps our work united, is not a simple division of tasks, but a common feeling, in love as we are with what every day spent here gives us. We know that living and working in Palazzone is a privilege, and this feeling becomes a certainty when things get tough. We respect the tradition of Orvieto in the composition of the blend letting Grechetto, more immediate and fragrant, and Procanico, more serious and mineral, assert their personality. We love the idea that the profile of a white wine of central Italy can be created: graceful but incisive, Mediterranean and at the same time with a closed structure. We are proud to make a white wine at an encouraging price, we want to invite people to enjoy a reliable wine that “feels” the difference among the different vintages.
Our conception of wine is intimately linked to the vineyard: only from here the real satisfactions can come out, those that remain. The grapes of Orvieto have not the solar expressiveness of some of the “easy” grapes, and their margins of improvement are not so immediate. Therefore, for the work in the vineyard we rely on continuity, more than on miraculous choices.
The Decugnano dei Barbi agricultural company, one of the most renowned wine producers of Umbria, stands on a hill overlooking the cliff of Orvieto, in the heart of the ancient Orvieto Classico production area. The special and privileged position of the company determines the ideal conditions for a quality production.
The climate, microclimate and sun exposure are particularly suitable for the cultivation of vineyards, as well as the soil of marine origin, of marl and clay, rich in fossils of oysters and shells of the Pliocene age. An ideal ventilation of the vineyards completes, in the end, the uniqueness of this situation.
Còlpetrone winery is a remarkable vineyard that produces premium wines from the best grape varieties. Within the estate of Villa Mongalli a vineyard of 15 hectares has been planted, whose prized grapes produce wines of the highest quality, both for the rare and peculiar characteristics of the clay soil with a compact structure, therefore light, warm and permeable (an optimal terroir for vines), and for its good exposure, and for the passion and commitment lavished by the family, assisted by experts of national reputation, in the production of Sagrantino and Rosso di Montefalco. The vineyard, located at an average altitude of about 370 meters above sea level, is cultivated with the objective to get the grapes perfectly healthy and capable of producing great wines linked to the territory of Montefalco.
The individual varieties of grapes are vinified separately and, moreover, selective processes are conducted according to ripeness, to the exposure and to the nature of the terrain. The collection is normally done with a careful selection of the grapes and fermentation is carried out using modern technology, exclusively in a natural way, ie without the addition of selected yeasts. Our aim was, from the outset, to produce wines with a strong personality that did not exclude a reinterpretation of a native vine like Sagrantino.
