Good evening and welcome to TG del Vino. Today we will focus on the progress of the 2024 harvest, a year characterized by ups and downs throughout Italy.

Last days of the grape harvest in Veneto.
Veneto is in the final stages of the grape harvest, although for some producers the harvest will continue for a few more days. Initial estimates indicate a slight decrease in production compared to last year. We spoke with Nicola Zaggia, president of Stradone del Friularo:

Interview with Nicola Zaggia:
"The quality of the grapes is good, but production costs and the price of money continue to worry many producers."

Let's now move on to the national and international framework with Luca Rigotti , president of the wine sector of Fedagripesca/Confcooperative.

Italy World's Leading Wine Producer.
Luca Rigotti emphasized how Italy maintains the world record with an estimated 41 million hectoliters. However, there are critical issues related to climate change, production costs and generational turnover.

Interview with Luca Rigotti:
"Despite the difficulties, Italian leadership is confirmed. Now it is important to address the issues of sustainability and cost management."

Harvest Forecasts at the G7 Agriculture.
In Syracuse, during the G7 Agriculture, Paolo Brogioni of Assoenologi presented the forecasts for 2024: a year complicated by extreme weather conditions. Brogioni spoke of a drop in sales and an unpredictable climate that has put producers to the test.

Let's talk now about Sicily and how the high temperatures affected the harvest.

Harvest in Sicily between Drought and Quality.
The Consorzio DOC Sicilia reports a 50% drop in production due to the dry climate. However, the quality of the grapes remains excellent, and a vintage of excellent longevity is expected for Sicilian wines.

Interview with a representative of the Consorzio DOC Sicilia:
"The quantity is reduced, but the quality of the grapes has not been affected by the climatic difficulties."

Problems in the North and South between hailstorms and delays.
In the North, hailstorms and bad weather have compromised part of the harvest, while in the South the delays of 10-15 days in the harvest are due to drought. In Bolgheri, however, a downpour has submerged the vineyards, putting the precious Cabernet Sauvignon at risk.

We end on a positive note: in Montecucco , after three difficult years, the 2024 harvest promises well in both quality and quantity.

Montecucco in Recovery.
The recent rains have not stopped operations and the harvest results are positive, a sign of hope for the entire winemaking industry.

That's all for this edition of TG del Vino. Keep following us for updates on the 2024 vintage. Have a good evening and see you next time!
