Great success, in the Eastern Veronese area, for the event created by Cities of Wine for 10th August.
From this year, in addition to Monteforte, there will be also Colognola ai Colli.
Less than a month to wait for Calici di Stelle, an historic event created by the Wine Tourism Movement for 10th August, the night of Saint Lawrence, and in the area of production of Soave preparations are already in full swing.
This year, in addition to Monteforte, a municipality that joined the Cities of Wine association, even the municipality of Colognola ai Colli will take part in the event, thus enriching an already full of events program.
A growing interest in this event, which goes beyond the summer flavour of the evening, and that in the area of production of Soave is certainly not accidental.
Numbers show how, in both municipalities, Monteforte and Colognola ai Colli, the cultivation of the vine represents the dominant element in the agricultural panorama.
Monteforte d'Alpone is in fact the municipality with the highest concentration of wine in Italy, with 95% of its available agricultural land planted with garganega. Here 87% of the grapes grown are DOC and DOCG.
Colognola ai Colli is no less so, where the land cultivated with vines reaches 87% of the total agricultural area, and of this 81% produces DOC and DOCG grapes.
It is interesting, then, to focus on two other aspects. Companies that produce organic wines are increasing in number, especially in Colognola ai Colli, where they represent 3.2% of production. Good results also for the presence of women at the helm of wineries: in Monteforte 21.3% of the wineries is owned by women, while in Colognola ai Colli the percentage rises to 24.5%.
Looking at the sky through a glass, seeing a shooting star and making a wish are not only an original way to spend an evening in August. In the Eastern Veronese area it has become a strong indication of how the culture of the vine is intertwined with the economy and the life of the municipalities involved.
