Coldiretti has released its estimates. Most Italians will organize the great dinner of the New Year’s Eve at home, Champagne and Panettone will be present at the tables for sure, the presence of the more traditional Made in Italy products is increasing considerably.

An analysis by Coldiretti/Ixè on New Year’s Eve 2014 in Italy claimed that 68% of Italians will celebrate the New Year at home and will spend average 66 euro for the great dinner of the New Year’s Eve: Italians will be divided into those who prefer to organize it in their own homes (28%) and those who have been invited by friends or relatives (40%).

Sparkling wine will be drunk by almost nine out of ten Italians (86%) and only 11 percent will drink Champagne. Another great protagonist of the tables of Italian people is Panettone, more than 8 Italians out of 10 (81%) will not go without it.

The presence of Made in Italy products is increasing, such as cooked pork sausage (+9%), lentils (+9%), seasonal local fruit (+11%), sparkling wine (+11%) In a sharp drop, expensive fashions such as oysters (-2%), caviar (-1%) and off–season fruits such as cherries and peaches (-1%).

Lentils that, in a time of trouble, are called to bring luck, are increasing in the dishes of 81% of households with cooked pork sausage or pig’s trotter, present in 73% of the dishes. Local fruits, with 80% of the preferences, wins on the exotic or out of season ones, that this year will be tasted only by 34% of Italians. We are leaving xenophilous fashions of the past, with 5% of Italians that can afford oysters and 4% caviar.

Made in Italy is appreciated also abroad, with exports of wines, sparkling wines, grappa and liqueurs, Panettone, cheese, salami and pasta for Christmas that exceeds the record figure of 2.7 billion Euro, based on the projections of Coldiretti for the month of December 2013. To increase the value of exports, all the typical of Christmas products, from sparkling wine (+16%), to Panettone (+14%), but in growth there are also wine (+8%), salami (+5%), pasta ( +4%) and cheese (+3%).
