From 8 June to 30 September 2013, at the Montepulciano Fortress, "Giorgio de Chirico. The portrait - Shape and form ", an interesting exhibition project curated by Katherine Robinson, who will show 68 works by the Master, that come from the collection of the Giorgio and Isa de Chirico Foundation in Rome.
The exhibition includes 68 works, 44 paintings, 7 sculptures and 17 works on paper, that trace fifty years (1925-1976) of the artistic production of de Chirico, completed by a room dedicated to the screening of an historical documentary on the Master. Giorgio de Chirico argued that "in the portrait, a not very adventurous subject, enters a sense of surprise and discovery".
The exhibition dedicated to De Chirico, the undisputed inventor of metaphysical painting, will be housed in the Fortress, one of the most representative buildings of the Tuscan Renaissance village that with Vino Nobile enriches the series of summer exhibitions which take place here, that was restored thanks to the help of Producers of wine. The investment cost was about 2 and a half million Euros. Now the building has become the focus of the "oenocultural" activities of Montepulciano together with the Tuscan seat of the American University of Kennesaw (Georgia), and here, in 2014, the offices of the Consorzio del Vino Nobile will be located. Always in the Fortress, the opening of the Casa del Vino Nobile Enoliteca Consortile is scheduled, where you can taste and buy the labels of the members of the Consortium and local products.
"It is part of what we have been calling for years"Montepulciano System"- the coordinator of the Consortium, Paolo Solini, explains - a clear example of how joining forces we can create significant economic and promotional means for the entire territory , starting from one of the leading products, Vino Nobile, that we as a Consortium promote all over the world along with the other excellences of Montepulciano".
The combination of "art-wine" includes a series of tastings sponsored by the Consortium in collaboration with the curators of "Giorgio de Chirico. The portrait - Shape and form".
The Italian and international audience will know the classic themes of portrait and self-portrait made in many forms by the "Pictor Optimus".
The exhibition, held in the Fortress by architect Frederico Lardera, is made by the Cantiere Internazionale d'Arte and by the Giorgio and Isa de Chirico Foundation, with the support of the Municipality of Montepulciano, the Province of Siena, and the local Rotary Club.
