This week, the Italian wine sector appears resilient despite an inevitable stabilization of sales after years of continuous growth.

In the first quarter of 2024, exports to China recorded an increase (8.6%), while sales to Japan decreased. Despite this, global exports reached 1.84 billion euros, marking an increase of 3.8% compared to 2023, with a significant contribution from the United States.

On the domestic front, the first six months of 2024 saw a decline in volumes sold through large-scale retail trade, with the exception of sparkling wines which began to grow again. On the contrary, wine tourism and online sales are experiencing a rise, thanks to the strong attraction of Italian wine regions, such as Lake Garda and its specialties such as Lugana Doc.

At an international level, rosé maintains a stable position, with France continuing to dominate the production and export of this type of wine.

Finally, the UK remains a key market for Italian wine, with imports growing in early 2024 and a significant increase in Prosecco sales, confirming Italy's position as the second most competitive nation in the global wine market after France .
