Verdicchio, a symbol of the Marche region way of drinking, confirms more and more to be the most beloved white wine by Italian experts. This was stated by a study of the Marche Polytechnic University.
The main 2015 wine guides in the country (Vini d’Italia, Gambero Rosso, Bibenda, I Vini d’Italia of L’Espresso, I Vini di Veronelli, Slow Wine, Vinibuoni d’Italia, Guida Essenziale ai Vini D’Italia and Vitae) assigned to the ’principé of Marche as well as 61 awards.
Verdicchio is in the trend of native grape varieties
The guides put at the top all native varieties (Verdicchio, Fiano 35, Friulano 29) that gain ground and respect.
The expression of the territory is winning, the director of IMT, Alberto Mazzoni, said, as long as working in a team
«Ours is the victory of a system, in which small, medium and large producers live together, for a total of 31 award–winning companies. Our team is made up of 2 wine regions, 850 producers, 16 designations, 9 types of wine. We are an important part of the Marche brand».
The Marche Brand is growing in quality and in numbers
The export exceeded the threshold of 50% and the value delivered increased by 11.2%. Total sales are now up to 36.5 million Euros grown in 2014 by 7.3%. The segment of sparkling wine rose by +8%.
The goal is to reach new markets through the Marche showcase of Expo 2015 and the new ambassador of Verdicchio in the world: the European and Olympic champion of Foil Elisa Di Francisca.
The research was commissioned by the Marche Institute for the Protection of Wines to the Marche Polytechnic University.
