The Müller Thurgau International Wine Competition awarded prizes to the best Müller Thurgau wines. This weekend, the spotlight has been focused on the production of a "niche" vine that is enjoying growing interest among wine lovers looking for a light white wine, fruity, easy and pleasant to drink, alone or in company.
Müller Thurgau, in Italy, is the last ranked for planted area (1,200 hectares of vineyards), surpassed by Sauvignon, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. The Italian production of Müller Thurgau is 7.3% of the European output, which is concentrated mainly in Trentino, as many as 75.2% of the total Italian production (902 hectares of vineyards).
The numbers show that in Trentino Müller Thurgau is a wine that is protagonist both in the markets and on the territory, in its dual role as a producer of wealth for the farmers who grow it with care and dedication in the heroic vineyards on high hills or mountains and as a key element for the care and development of the area.
44 are the Müller Thurgau from Italy, Austria and Germany, who participated in the International Wine Competition.
In 2014 2 gold medals and 12 silver medals were awarded.
The awards ceremony was held in the enchanting Castle of Segonzano during an event coordinated by the blogger and sommelier Adua Villa, which was attended by representatives of the award–winning wineries, who submitted their wines to the large audience.
