Mondial du Merlot 2013: Italian Merlot obtained great achievements at the world competition which was held in Sierre in Switzerland.
The Mondial du Merlot was organized by the Vinea Association, and saw an overwhelming response from all over the world: 320 wines presented by 160 producers from 17 countries.
The jury was composed of 19 international tasters including sommeliers and experts from the world of wine and specialized journalists.
In total were awarded 34 gold medals and 66 silver medals: 24 were attributed to Swiss producers, 3 to Italy, 3 to France, 1to Australia, 1 to New Zealand, 1 to Romania and 1 to Turkey.
For Yann Juban, board member of OIV , "this sixth edition of Mondial du Merlot allowed the members of the jury from Switzerland and abroad to test a large number of high-quality samples, making the selection even more rigorous, so as to reward only the most interesting expressions of this grape variety".
