Lambrusco: identity of the Emilian lands
«You say Lambrusco and think about one of the most famous typical products that characterize the agri–food Italian heritage, especially that which comes from, and in, the Emilian lands. But Lambrusco is not only wine of quality – these are the words of the president of the Chamber of Reggio Stefano Landi, who continues – Lambrusco is a value of identity, a worldwide recognition brand of Italian excellence. A business card for a land, Emilia, able to rise even after terrible wounds like the earthquake in 2012, an event that has tried, but not unfolded, the economic–productive fabric of which viticulture represents an excellence». Not surprisingly, the Terre di Lambrusco Guide has been created thanks to the competition organized by the Chamber of Commerce of Reggio Emilia. The Matilda of Canossa Wine Competition, which aims to highlight the best production of Lambrusco wines, makes it known to consumers and traders, to present to the public the various types of wines, as well as to reward and stimulate the activity of the wineries to the continuous improvement in quality of their products.
What are the Lambrusco in the Guide?
The selection criteria were very strict «For two days – the Chairman Landi said – 5 committees formed by oenologists and sommeliers have worked to select, according to the evaluation method of the Union Internationale of Oenologues, the best Lambrusco wines presented at the Competition. (...) To follow, they selected 86 wines produced by 40 companies from the Lambrusco quadrilateral delimited by the borders of the provinces of Reggio Emilia, Modena, Mantua and Parma».
