Redesigning the Chianti territory: "Spazio diVino" International Prize is part of "The Cathedrals of Wine | Architecture and wine: the encounter of two cultures" project



The "Spazio diVino" Competition aims to discover and redesign the routes of Chianti. The journey to these lands can become even more impressive when interpreted as a journey of "encounters" that lead tourists through their movements, to increase the opportunities of knowledge.

The 2012 – 2014 edition of the "Spazio diVino" International Competition wants to amplify the meetings of the visitors of Chianti, identifying strategic points, the flow of the path as a complex and well–structured movement of suggestions, amplifying the relationship among nature, history and arts of the region.

The prize of the "Spazio diVino" Competition

The prize relates to the design of elements at different scales, useful for promoting the business and making wine in both the home territory and abroad, as well as among producing wineries.

The competition will be based on three Themes:

A. Elements of the park/lookout – open to the participation of architects and engineers in collaboration with an artist, to propose ideas, choosing one of the seven sub–zones of Chianti;

B. "Chianti Store" – open to the participation of architects and engineers, understood as interior design project for identifying the local Chianti Wine Consortium in Italy and abroad;

C. Furniture components – open to young architects (under 35) and designers, for the creation of points of tasting within 2,500 wineries belonging to the consortium.

Evaluation Criteria

The opinion expressed by the jury, will verify the compliance with the program and the objectives of the

Competition, the technical feasibility and the compliance with the applicable rules; in particular will be the task of the

jury to consider the proposals taking into account the following criteria, which the Contracting Authority considers

essential for the evaluation:

– Innovative solutions, eco–friendliness and quality of interventions; 30%

– language expression of the dialogue between the wine culture and the architecture; 30%

– Comparison with the landscape, enhancement of pre–existence

in relation to the environment, the recovery of traditional cultural elements; 40%



Deadlines


The projects must be received from June 16th, 2014 to July 16th, 2014.

The list of the works selected will be published on the competition website from

September 19th, 2014
.

The competition will conclude with a merit classification for each of the themes in which it is articulated and the winning projects will be displayed, in conjunction with the upcoming 14th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale in 2014.

The Chianti Wine Consortium intends to acquire, with subsequent discussions with the authors, the project ideas participanting in the Competition, to be used for the benefit of its members.
