Veneto is the first Region in Italy for the number of Geographical Indications recognized by the European Union (95, of which 41 PDO / PGI / TSG food-products) for a basket value of 3.9 billion / euro.

Agri-food products recognized by the European Union quality marks - PDO (Protected Designations of Origin), PGI (Protected Geographical Indications) and TSG (Traditional Specialties Guaranteed) - are enjoying ever greater success among consumers. Not to mention the DOC , DOCG and IGT wines, which have now outclassed the production of so-called common wines. These are Denominations protected at European level, even if sometimes slips are not lacking (the "Prosecco" affair teaches us), and super pampered at national level, especially in those countries such as Italy and France where the recognized quality certificates are more several. Suffice it to say that the Italian agri-food sector can count on 838 DOP / IGP / TSG certifications, of which 312 consist of food-products and 526 of wines; France follows closely but still well behind with 692 total products, while the other countries appear in the ranking at sidereal distances: Spain 342, Greece 260, Portugal 180, Germany 135, etc. If within this Italian framework, which is already very clear and tempting in itself, we insert the total value of the EU quality label basket, which is equal to 16.9 billion euros , the game is quickly done. In other words, we are talking about a sector - the national agri-food sector - known and appreciated in the world and capable of driving an entire economy.

At the Venetian level, the music does not change. And what music! With a total of 89 PDO and PGI certified foods and wines , Veneto is the first Region in Italy in terms of the number of Denomination products recognized by the EU, to which are added the 5 national TSGs and the 3 regional GI Spirits , for a total of 95 Geographical Indications . At an economic level, according to the latest estimates of the Ismea-Qualivita Observatory , the sector of PDO / PGI / TSG products in Veneto is worth over 3.9 billion euros , with the sector of agri-food products accounting for 11.3% and the wine sector for 88.7%.

Also for these reasons, the commitment and attention of the Veneto Region and Veneto Agriculture regarding agri-food products recognized by the quality marks of the European Union is becoming increasingly incisive. Concepts such as "Agriculture increasingly sustainable in respect of the environment" and "Quality of products to favor consumers, with an eye to the markets" represent a philosophy and a policy that are strictly marked at the regional level, starting with promotion and information for the community.

Initiatives such as the PDO Festival , whose 7th edition is scheduled for Sunday 24 October next in Godega Sant'Urbano (Tv), or the insights of VenetoAgricolturaChannel , very popular on Social channels (https://bit.ly/3mH3Mi3) and on some regional TVs, which each week present in detail a Veneto DOP, IGP or TSG product, they aim precisely to raise awareness of the importance of Veneto agriculture which increasingly produces quality . A quality of the highest level, which the European Union recognizes us through the Denominations and which the whole world proves to appreciate: the numbers speak for themselves.
