CONEGLIANO VALDOBBIADENE DOCG, great works coordinated on the new Wine Protocol for a greener viticulture.
The new protocol is intended to be a precise manual of self-discipline for the producers of Conegliano Valdobbiadene DOCG.

At the initiative are working together: the leaders of the Protection Consortium, the Province of Treviso, represented by the Councillor for Environment Alberto Villanova, trade associations, some municipalities of the DOCG, the Ulss7 and 8, and Legambiente.

All these players are doing their best to make the viticulture of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore area more and more environmentally friendly.

The creator of the initiative is the Protection Consortium that has explained the work in progress of the document. The first version of the protocol, which had been adopted in 2012 out of a total of 600 hectares of vineyards, has had a positive impact by promoting a greater awareness of environmental issues among growers.

"The Wine Protocol aims to promote the awareness among the producers of the need to harmonize more and more viticulture with environment and citizenship. - the president of the Consortium Innocente Nardi says - The ambition is to widespread it to all growers in the area and to achieve this result it is necessary that all believe in it and that there is a proper understanding of the project ".

The Province of Treviso emphasized the great significance of the path outlined by the Protocol.

"The Province of Treviso decided from the outset to be an active partner in this very important initiative for the protection of the health of people and of our territory - the Provincial Councillor for Environment Alberto Villanova says - The Province has joined with conviction and firmness to the initiative conceived by the consortium, by local authority, by the ULSS and by environmental organizations, because it is convinced that Prosecco DOCG must be the business card of a healthy and full of excellences territory".

Objectives and future steps of the Wine Protocol

The new Wine Protocol will be presented to the media on the eve of the beginning of the new growing season, on 16th April, at the press conference that will take place at 11:30 am at the Chamber of Commerce of Treviso.

In 2013 the aim is to represent double the current number of growers and to eliminate toxic substances. The official launch of the new document will be on 16th April 2013. But the draft has already been submitted to pharmaceutical companies and retailers of pesticides, which will have the opportunity to organise for providing their products according to the instructions.

Presentations will be carried out even to vine-growers, in fact the role of producers is recognized as fundamental. The Wine Protocol has been designed to give them a real guide with the aim of employing substances with lower toxicity and of reducing as much as possible their use.
