Wine Mosaic has been designed and developed by a group of professionals in the wine industry led by a major importer of Med & Co, Jean-Luc Etievent and by the owner of the wine marketing Triptiq Arnaud Daphy.
"Our goal is to focus in particular on the typical varieties of the Mediterranean Area, developing measures to facilitate their dissemination and preservation, and avoiding the danger of extinction that now grips many local small productions" Daphy says. "This campaign is trying to involve a network of growers, producers, winemakers, researchers, journalists, distributors and sommeliers, to help them find the tools and support they need to sell and distribute the labels produced from traditional grapes".
Researchers, journalists, producers, distributors, consumers and wine lovers: Wine Mosaic wants to gather experts in the wine world to exchange views and opinions on the issue of the diversity of wines.
The network of Wine Mosaic revolves around two main ideas:
Production: to enhance the native varieties and develop practical measures to ensure their promotion, increasing the quality of wine made from these varieties.
Consumption: to bring out the awareness and consumption of wines made from these varieties of wine.
Wine Mosaic is a project that aims to promote the wine-diversity, which is much needed, as 80 percent of the wine we consume is produced from the grapes of only 20 grape varieties. The varieties in the world are more than 14,000, as Wine Grapes, the encyclopedia edited by the Master of Wine Jancis Robinson, states. In the world there is a wealth of varieties Wine Mosaic wants to spread. The initiative is supported by the important Organisation Internationale de la Vigne et du Vin and has the sponsorship of the Vinisud fair, taking place from 24th to 26th February 2014 in Montpellier.
Here are the upcoming meetings of Wine Mosaic:
