The best Umbrian oils were elected at the “Oro Verde dell’ Umbria” regional competition. The announcement was made at the Abbey of San Felice in Giano dell’Umbria.
Why the “Oro Verde dell’Umbria” regional competition?
The competition aims primarily to enhance the extra virgin olive oils with “Umbria” designation of origin, to promote knowledge and appreciation of consumers, and to strengthen their presence in the markets. “Oro Verde dell’Umbria”, in addition, aims to promote the quality of Umbrian oil thanks to Italian and foreign operators and consumers, even through actions guided by professionals, such as tasters. Last but not least, the intent to stimulate olive growers and oil millers to improve the quality of their products.

«The award has assessed the completeness and the clarity of the information provided to the consumer on the label, as well as the design and functionality of the bottle and the use of innovative materials for the trade design of the product».

The “Olivo” of “Oro Verde dell’Umbria”
The competition committee also wanted to reward all producers of PDO oil with a score above 80/100 with an “Olivo” of “Oro Verde dell’Umbria”. Here are the winners:
Calvarone Farm of Spello; Viola Farm of Sant’Eraclio di Foligno, Crusher of Spello; Eugenio Ranchino Farm of Canale di Orvieto; Cuore Verde Organic Farm of Spello, Le Mandrie Farm of San Paolo di Assisi and Pucciarella Farm of Magione.
The competition is sponsored by the Regional Chamber of Commerce of Umbria, in collaboration with the Chambers of Commerce of Perugia and Terni, the Umbria Region, Parco Tecnologico Agroalimentare of Umbria, the Consortium of the DOP “Umbria” Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Coldiretti, Confagricultura, CIA, the National Academy of Olive and Oil, the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Perugia, the Umbria Trade Agency, the Strada dell’Olio Extravergine d’oliva Dop Umbria Association and the Città dell’Olio Association.
