The publication compiled by expert tasters rewards with the Three Leaves prize the best extra virgin olive oils in Italy, published by Gambero Rosso in collaboration with Unaprol.
Oils of Italy allows to make an interesting journey in the specificity of oil and food within the Italian peninsula.
In each region there are many reports of places where to eat, sleep, and buy.
Top Three Regions for number of Three Leaves prizes
Tuscany triumphs with 31 Three Leaves prizes, followed by Lazio with 29, Puglia with 21, Sicily with 19, Umbria with 18, Abruzzo with 15, Calabria, Campania and Marche with 7, Sardinia with 6, Trentino Alto Adige with 5, Liguria and Lombardy with 4, Molise and Veneto with 3, Emilia Romagna with 2, and Basilicata with 1.
Ten are the special prizes awarded to the best light fruity oil, the best middle-fruity oil, the best intense fruity oil, the best organic extra virgin oil, the best quality/price rate, the best monocultivar, the best company, the best IGP of Tuscany and best extra virgin from catering voted by a jury of chefs representing some of the major Italian olive-growing regions. Furthermore, for the first time a prize for the best territorial performance was introduced, a way to reward a specific area made of native cultivars and producers that enhance it.
This year there are a lot of oils in Italy that have earned the "Three Leaves" prize: from 138 in 2012 to 183 in 2013.
