Sol d’Oro Northern Hemisphere, the most important international olive oil competition organized by Veronafiere, has awarded prizes to the best olive oils. Despite the Italian vintage was difficult, Italian olive oils were again the best in the world, winning 14 out of the 15 medals up for grabs.
Sol d’Oro 2015: from samples to tastings
The samples evaluated were 238, 13 judges evaluated the oils and the products that won a medal will be included in the "Le stelle del Sol d’Oro" guide by Sol&Agrifood, taking place from 22nd to 25th March 2015. Also during Sol&Agrifood it will be possible to taste the oils winning Sol d’Oro Northern Hemisphere 2015 and those of the Southern Hemisphere edition of autumn 2014 at the Oil Bar made in collaboration with Onaoo, the National Organization of olive oil tasters.
A 2015 of excellent oils in spite of the weather
«We feared a year with a subdued overall quality, given the difficult Italian production campaign, characterized by a particularly unfavorable climate – Marino Giorgetti, panel head of Sol d’Oro, said – but we had to change our minds. The large number of samples that arrived shows a significant judgment ability of the producers on the value of their work, too. Surprising, in particular, the level of the oils of the Organic category, theoretically more at risk when they have to face difficult climatic conditions as in 2014».
All silver medals and bronze medals went to Italian oils
«Extra virgin olive oil is a product of Italian food excellence, the result of a producing and cultural tradition that has never been equaled. With Sol d’Oro VeronaFiere has always aimed to provide a table of comparison between producers of the various countries where to share the value of quality – Damiano Berzacola, vice Chairman of Veronafiere, said –. Results are visible and have allowed, thanks to the growing number of participants, to double the event with the creation of Sol d’Oro Southern Hemisphere».
