Olio Capitale 2013: the good oil for Europe
"Olio Capitale", the exhibition of virgin olive oils welcomed 10,500 visitors. The trade fair of extra virgin olive oils got a record. The fair was in the halls by the sea at the Maritime Station of Trieste. International exhibitors and buyers came from Taiwan, Egypt, Japan, Yemen and many European countries.
231 companies exhibited their products, in fact at Olio Capitale there was a huge variety of offers in terms of price, flavors and packaging.
"Olio Capitale is an exhibition where buyers from all over the world come and meet and make deals directly with producers to export extra virgin olive oil worldwide. It is also a way to honour oil at a high level," says Antonio Paoletti, president of the Chamber of Commerce of Trieste. "It was a record edition which is growing internationally and has generated a relevant incoming for the city."
"I am vey interested in this wonderful initiative and I look at it from the European Observatory," says Debora Serracchiani, MEP for transport and tourism, when she addressed at the closing ceremony. "Olio Capitale matches well with the new European guidelines which consider the land products and the excellence of a virtuous production chain to invest on and attract the European tourism. This means financing and being on the same level as European countries- it does not often happen to Italy. "
Olio Capitale Competition : the best olive oils in Italy
The successful initiative awarded the best olive oils in Italy at the Olio Capitale Competition. Despite 20% of the oils came from Spain, Portugal, Greece, Israel, the triumphant country is Italy -with the greatest number of awards. Amongst the Italian regions, Tuscany brought 6 of its oils out of 15 finalists, but Puglia got 4 prizes out of 7.
In addition to Puglia and Tuscany, two oils from Sardinia and Sicily were crowned. Italy is the land of extra virgin olive oil in the most international of all times Olio Capitale Competition.
