Important designations will have greater protection in America thanks to the “Notification to amend the annexes to the agreement between the European Community and the United States of America on the wine trade”.
The list of the “new entry” of protected wines includes, among the Pdo (Protected Origin Designations):
–Piedmont: "Asti preceded by Moscato di", "Barbera del Monferrato Superiore", "Dolcetto di Ovada Superiore", for Friuli "Colli Orientali del Friuli – Schiopettino di Prepotto" and "Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit – Cialla",
–Lombady: "Curtefranca" (that takes the place of "Terre di Franciacorta"),
–Veneto: "Colli Asolani – Asolo", "Recioto di Gambellara" and "Soave Superiore", the Tuscan "Terratico di Bibbona" and "Terre di Casole",
–Marche: "San Ginesio",
–Lazio: "Terracina – Moscato di Terracina", the Abruzzo’s "Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Casauria – Terre di Casauria", "Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Terre dei Vestinila" and "Terre Tollesi – Tollum", the Campania’s "Irpinia – Campi Taurasini",
–Puglia "Colline Joniche Tarantine",
–Sicily "Salaparuta" e "Noto" (that takes the place of "Moscato di Noto").
Among the Igp (Typical Geographical Indications):
–Lombardy "Ronchi Varesini", "Terre Lariane" and "Valcamonica",
–Tuscany "Montecastelli", the Abruzzo”s "Terre Aquilane – Terre dell’Aquila"
There are also some outputs compared to the previous agreement ("European Commission Decision of 20th December 2005 concerning the conclusion of the Agreement between the European Community and the United States of America on the wine trade"), have been removed: the designation of Lucania "Matera" and the mention of the Veneto "Cartizze".
Little Italian achievements!
