On the Vini d’Italia (Wines of Italy) guide of L’Espresso 2016, 223 fine wines appear: the region with the highest number of awards is Piedmont with 50 labels at the top, second place for Tuscany with 48, third place for the Trentino Alto Adige with 24 wines.
14th edition for the renowned I Vini d’Italian guide of L’Espresso 2016 that annually submits the national wine production to a careful selection and systematically carried out over 20 thousand wines tasted.
The highest rank is composed of I Vini dell’Eccellenza (The Wines of Excellence) that received a score of at least 18/20. The 2016 Guide has recognized 223 excellent wines.
Overall, the 2016 guide shows a consolidation of the classic types of quality, both for red wines and for white wines.
Important to note that one third of the wines considered "Excellent" has arrived for the first time to this goal, and that about 50 of the 223 awards are traceable on the shelves at lower than 15 euro prices.
The companies of greater qualitative importance are indicated by the attribution of "stars" (one to three) in function of their quality and continuity over the years. In the 2016 edition the "stars" were assigned to 526 producers (520 last year), including 18 classified with the highest rating of "three stars".
