19 wines received special awards at the second National Competition of Rosé Wines. The competition was sponsored by the Food Resources department of the Puglia region, in partnership with Assoenologi, Italian Academy of Vine and Wine and Unioncamere Puglia, and authorized by the Ministry of Agriculture.
The challenge of rosé wines
The competition of rosé wines of Italy 2013 is "a challenge that Puglia has assumed fully, and that our region has won against any prejudice on wine varieties, superficially not very considered in recent years, and that instead is being more and more rediscovered by Italian and foreign consumers. It demonstrates great character and versatility, as well as an important and delicate work of vinification and wine-making technique behind ", the commissioner Agri-Resources of the Region of Puglia, Fabrizio Nardoni, said. Rocco di Stefano, former director of the Experimental Oenologists Institute, illustrated the value and potential of rosé wine further: "The rosé wines are experiencing an extremely positive period and, if until now had their main market in France, in these years this type of wine is among the most demanded and appreciated in many international markets, where mainly two fundamental properties are required: varietal aromas and long-lasting color, characteristics tied to special technological production. Nowadays, there is a return to the old and authentic flavoUrs of rosé, and wines that have long-lasting color, varietal aromas and fuller flavours can be produced.
The awards and medals to the Best rosé wines of Italy 2013
The award ceremony took place at the Aragonese Castle of Otranto (Le) and was conducted by the journalist-winemaker Bruno Vespa, by Senator Dario Stephen, creator of the initiative, and by the Regional Councillor for food resources, Fabrizio Nardoni. Six categories of the competition were attended by 292 wineries of all 20 regions for 363 labels totally.
Abruzzo obtained the best score in the whole event: the Great Gold Medal was awarded to Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo Doc "Fantini". For "still rosé Igt-Igp" all medals to Puglia, for "sparkling rosé Doc-Dop " to stock up medals was Emilia Romagna.
"The awards this year outline a map of Italian excellences and confirm the importance of the Award and its seriousness - the commissioner to the food resources of the Region of Puglia, Fabrizio Nardoni, said - as they are awards that give a proper role to wines and winemaking processes, which are delicate and valuable, in the history and tradition of national oenology".
