“Sparkle 2014” declared the best Italian sparkling wines of 2014.
The Sparkle Guide is dedicated to the production of Italian sparkling wines and awards every year the “5 Balls” recognition to sparkling wines.
This year the sparkling wines rewarded with the prestigious “5 Balls” of Sparkle were 68.
At the top for number of awards: Franciacorta, Conegliano Valdobbiadene and Trento.
“We have awarded 13 wines more than last year – Francesco D’Agostino says, editor of the book and director of Cucina & Vini – with Piedmont that increases the spoils of “5 Balls” recognitions of 3 units, reaching 7. The Lombardy region rises from 20 to 27 top wines, with Franciacorta that alone jumps forward with 5 wines, reaching 23. Trento advances by 1 unit, collecting 10 top labels, while Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore increases its “5 Balls” from 11 to 16”.
Thirteen excellences more than last year’s edition are the result of a sparkling wines movement that grows in two directions: “As well as eleven are the companies honored for the first time by our Guide – Francesco D’Agostino continues – all realities engaged for a long time in the production of sparkling wine, now at the top for their unfailing quality motivation, and this push towards increasingly ambitious goals is the characteristic feature of the world of Italian sparkling wine, with the areas involved that never cease to accelerate”.
