Italian farmers are feeling more and more at ease with the Internet, smartphones and tablets.
A study presented by Image Line, a company specialized in informatics services for farms and Nomisma presents the picture of an agriculture 2.0: as many as 61% farmers use the Internet on a daily basis for their activities in the field while 95.6% use websites and online databases to support the running of farm management, among them – the study highlights – 35.2% do it for weather information while 11.2% keep up to date on the prices of agricultural products.
Drones arise more and more interest according to research, 43% knows them and would be interested to use them to manage and monitor their crops, while 2.1% are already using them.
The same Nomisma states that «farmers see new technologies as a means to communicate with consumers and tell directly the story of their products such as fruits, vegetables, wine, oil and the related activities that they run, such as farmhouse inns, educational farms and similar».
20.4% farmers have their own website and of these 26.4% give consumers the opportunity to purchase products online, while 85%, «even though they consider their own farms adequate in terms of ICT, they declare themselves interested in improving it further».
