It is a grape of ancient origins, which was threatened with extinction. Recently, it has been rediscovered and now its cultivation is in expansion. The Pelaverga vine documented since the oldest times, with this name, grown on the hills of Saluzzo, in the province of Cuneo and, according to tradition, it was from this area that, in the sixteenth century, Beato Sebastinao Valfr brought some cuttings in the municipality of Verduno, which then became the natural cradle and even today the homeland of the grape. It is also produced in a part of the municipalities of La Morra and Roddi, in the province of Cuneo, and on the Saluzzo hills.
