The name of this vine derives from the abundant presence of bloom on the berries, which gives the impression that they are covered with flour and that they are therefore passed with a mill (same origin of the name Pinot Meunier, one of the three grape varieties used for Champagne). It is a variety cultivated in the low plain of Verona, of which we have the first news from the beginning of the nineteenth century, with important claims by the most influential botanists and ampelographers of the period.
