This variety, of uncertain origin, has been cultivated for centuries exclusively in the Etna area, where it is present with scattered trees in the vineyards of Nerello Mascalese and Carricante. The name derives from the dialect word minna, which means "breast", due to the shape of the grapes. The fact that they are scattered in the different vineyards of the two most cultivated varieties on the slopes of the volcano is proof that this variety was used in conjunction with other varieties to soften wines that, without it, would be too rich in acidity and tannin. It is a slightly vigorous plant, with medium-sized leaves and bunches, and small or medium-sized, elliptical and thin-skinned grapes.
