This variety, called in dialect also Burson, covers an area of 200 hectares and is widespread in the plains around Ravenna and on the hills of Faenza. It is an old native variety that was saved by the extinction in the second half of the nineteenth century thanks to its resistance and the rusticity of the plant. In effect, the grapes were cultivated also as a recall for the birds, thanks to its taste, different from the typical vineyards. It was discovered by Aldo Longanesi climbed on a oak tree, when in the twenties he took possession of his property in Bagnacavallo. It was his son Antonio, who saved the vine in the fifties, when he made the first grafts and realized with amazement his great results. This variety, according to recent laboratory tests, has a completely different DNA from the other Italian red grape varieties.
