The first written documentation relating to this grape dates back to 1606, when the House of Savoy jeweler, Giovan Battista Croce, talks about it in his treatise on the excellences and diversities of the wines of the province of Turin. The origin of its name comes from the color of the grapes in autumn: warm golden hues and amber and intense shades in the sunlight. The Erbaluce vine is cultivated in the provinces of Turin, Biella and Vercelli, but reaches its highest expression in the area between Caluso, lakes Viverone and Candia and the territory of Cuceglio and Agli.
