Dolcetto

It has an uncertain origin, which someone place in Monferrato, while according to another tradition it comes from nearby Liguria. Despite its name, Dolcetto is a dry wine and its etymology would derive from the Piedmontese word "duset", which means "bump", because it is on the bumps of the hills that the vineyards are located in ideal position, even if the origin of the name could derive from the fact that the ripe grapes have a very sweet taste. It is a vine that is easily adapted to the territory and the climate in which it is grown, even in the case of poor and dry soils, and for this reason its diffusion in Piedmont is extended: currently, it is grown on the hills in the provinces of Asti, Cuneo and Alessandria, as well as on the lower slopes of the Alps and the Apennines, in the area of ​​Pinerolo and Ovada, facilitated by its early ripening.
