Also known as the "Corvina Veronese", this variety seems to come from the Valpolicella area. The first signs of its presence date back to the middle of the seventeenth century, although the most authoritative studies can be traced back to the late nineteenth century. It is spread all over the Veronese area and there are several sub-varieties including: Corvina Piccola (or Corvina Gentile), Corvina Media, Cruina and Corvina Grossa (not to be confused with Corvinone, another vine native of the area). It is a luxuriant vine, which shows good resistance to winter colds and is often left to dry for the production of Recioto and Amarone.
