Corinto Nero

As reflected by the name, this grape variety has its origins in Greece, although it is not know with certainty whether it comes from Corinth or Naxos. The introduction of the Black Corinth in the Aeolian islands is probably due to the Greeks of Cnidus who, in 588-577 BC, colonized the archipelago and planted this variety in Salina, Lipari and Stromboli, where the vines were grown mainly for drying. This vine is already mentioned by Agostino Gallo, who, in his book 'Ten Days of True Agriculture' (1595) defines it as Uva Marina Nera, and is also described by Cupani who, in his Horthus catholicus and Phanphyton Siculum speaks of Corinth withered in the sun indicated as "Passulina of our kingdom". Finally, Girolamo Molon in his Ampelography (1906) defines it as "black Passerina". It is a very vigorous plant, with medium, wedge-shaped and troubled leaves, with small, cylindrical and winged bunches and small and spherical, with waxy skin of a violet color grapes.
