Wirtshaus Vögele

A famous tale: "Wirtshaus Vögele" ... once upon a time, there was a tavern whose walls, built in 1277, since 1840 were owned by the Kamaun family. The inhabitants of Bolzano lovingly called it "Aquila Rossa". It was around 1870. Passing merchants, poets and thinkers, but also ordinary people, went to "Aquila Rossa" for eating and drinking in good company. Probably, one of them was Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Otherwise, why one of the "Stuben" would bear his name? The "Aquila Rossa" restaurant, in the heart of Bolzano, was not only the destination of wits; in time of war, also great strategists met who, to avoid unpleasant intruders, agreed a password to access their secret meetings. And the slogan was simply "Vögele".



Today this word is no longer a secret. In effect, everyone – not only the people of Bolzano – know its meaning. A good glass of wine with friends at the bar, a pleasant working lunch in one of the historical "Stuben" or a romantic candlelit dinner in the pleasant atmosphere of the rooms furnished in Biedermeier style, or the "room of roses" in the spar on the first floor. And since, for over a century, not only the inhabitants of Bolzano have loved to meet in this place, the Vögele restaurant must be really something special. While in the past "Vögele" was a secret word, today "Vögele" stands for "to see and be seen".



And when sometimes you drink a little bit too much, or you are literally bewitched by the environment and the company, you are likely to see even the red eagle fly...

Restaurant - Enoteca Osteria di Ramandolo: "un pujûl sul Friûl" (a terrace overlooking Friuli) Saying "Ramandolo" immediately brings to mind one of the most beautiful and romantic views of the Eastern Hills of Friuli and the "Park of Vine and Wine": a happy geometry of terraced vineyards at the foot of Mount Bernadia that frame the picturesque fifteenth-century church of San Giovanni Battista. Sitting under the centenary horse chestnuts, the gaze rests on the woods, on the "vineyards - garden", on the castles and the parish churches of the plain until you see the Adriatic Sea in the distance kissing the coast ... It is no coincidence that Ippolito Nievo defined this region as a "small compendium of the universe ”: a patch of land that in a few tens of kilometers encloses the sea, the mountains, the plains and the hills. And it is precisely in this spectacular location that in 1880, the inhabitants of the town of Ramandolo, almost all winegrowers, built a tavern to promote their wine. Since 2013, the management of the restaurant has been entrusted to Pietro and Ilenia, a couple in life and in work: he is a chef with long experience always looking for the best seasonal products and particularly fond of old traditional dishes that modern life often tends to leave behind. plan and she landed in the world of sommelierie and catering after ten years of work in foreign commercial offices. Who knows…. Maybe it was written in destiny… in 2002 Pietro and Ilenia got married and celebrated their wedding right here…. the convict was Ramandolo!
