The latest available data tell us that the vineyard area in Campania today is just over 25 thousand hectares. These embrace a myriad of different territories, each with its own production culture, exposures and different geological formations: volcanic areas such as Roccamonfina, Vesuvius, the Campi Flegrei area; then the islands; the high-altitude vineyards - which reach even over 700 meters - of Irpinia; the vineyards overlooking the sea of the Amalfi Coast.
Campania of wine, a composite region
Campania is a composite region both on the geo-morphological and ampelographic level. Fiano, Greco, Falanghina, Aglianico, Piedirosso, Casavecchia, Pallagrello (black and white), Pepella, Biancolella and many others are transformed into increasingly contemporary wines and in any case almost always able to restore the territory.
Campania's Tre Bicchieri 2025. Positive Glimmers of Hope for Aglianico (Not Just Taurasi)
This year too, the tastings for the Gambero Rosso Vini d'Italia 2025 guide were more than convincing. We don't want to dwell on the obvious, that is, on the great goodness achieved by the whites in different areas of the region, a speech that is especially valid for Fiano and Greco in Irpinia and for Falanghina in Sannio . Instead, we feel like spending a few words on the red sector, which seemed a little more focused than last year. The vitality and crunchiness of Piedirosso Flegreo is no longer news; instead, we were pleasantly surprised by some versions of Taurasi, and of Aglianico more generally, which managed to mitigate the tannic power of the variety; in short, it seems there are positive glimmers of hope in the not exactly enthusiastic situation that we described in previous editions.
Three Glasses 2025 from Campania. White wines triumph
There are 21 Tre Bicchieri in this edition of the Guide, of which 16 are white. Fiano di Avellino and Falanghina del Sannio take the lion's share, but Greco di Tufo also finds plenty of space on the podium of the best. Closing the circle is the return to the laurel of Fiorduva di Marisa Cuomo and Zagreo di Cacciagalli, which reveals itself to be one of the most fascinating orange wines in Italy.
Three Glasses 2025 from Campania The new entry
We welcome Mario Fappiano to the Tre Bicchieri club, a young winemaker from Sannio who has already won us over upon his first entry into the Guide.
