Tastings in Alta Maremma: Gianni Moscardini's summer

The Pomaia company is preparing for the tourist season with a renewed range of proposals for wine enthusiasts and visitors, including cellar tours and gourmet events

With the arrival of the beautiful season, Gianni Moscardini , a winery from Pomaia (Pisa) in Alta Maremma , is preparing to welcome tourists and lovers of good wine with new proposals for visits and tastings in the company and a calendar full of convivial events.

The company has formulated five different itineraries that allow visitors to fully immerse themselves in the colours, aromas and flavors of the Pomaia plateau, to fully understand the peculiarities of the place and the production style of the winemaker.

"Ours are terroir wines, an expression of the ideal union between soil, rootstock and variety – explains Gianni Moscardini , agronomist and owner of the company of the same name –. Taste them while admiring the vineyards from which they are born, touching the amphorae and barrels in which they refine, combined with genuine and territorial foods, it is the best way to capture their spirit, character and intent. Through experiences in the cellar we create a direct line between us and the public, a fundamental dynamic for communicating our vision without filters winemaking".

The Alla Scoperta itinerary is a real overview of the territory and of Gianni Moscardini's production. After an introduction to the history of the winery and its corner of Tuscany, we proceed with a visit to the barrel cellar, to learn in detail about the fermentation and aging processes. The experience ends with a tasting of a wine from each line: Vermentino Penteo (85% Vermentino, 15% Fiano) from the Selezione line, Ciliegiolo Sileno from the Monovarietali line and Atteone (100% Cabernet Franc) from the Terroir line. The Freshness of Tuscany route, however, is dedicated to nature lovers looking for a relaxing experience. The guided tasting of Vermentino Penteo and Ciliegiolo Sileno takes place in the shade of the gazebo in the rose garden, while enjoying the breathtaking view of the vineyards and the Pisan Hills. According to Gianni Moscardini, Super Tuscan leads those present to discover the "rebels by birth", the result of the encounter between native varieties and those typical of other regions within skilfully used French woods. It starts with a walk in the Cantina vineyard, continues with a visit to the production site and ends with a tasting of the entire Terroir line: Artume (Fiano di Avellino 85%, Vermentino 15%) , Atteone and Operaundici (Sangiovese 50% , Ciliegiolo 25%, Teroldego 25%). The formula The world of the winemaker recounts Gianni Moscardini's years of research and experiments aimed at exploring the interaction between vine, rootstock and soil, dismantling the concept of distribution area. After the visit to the cellar and the walk among the rows, the participants taste five wines that express the vigneron's style: Rosato Penteo , Ciliegiolo Sileno , Artume , Atteone and Operaundici . ​The fifth proposal, The terrace on the vineyard , includes a tasting of three wines chosen by the participants, without any limitation, to be tasted on the terrace in the center of the Campo al Pino plot, from which to enjoy the all-round view of the vineyards and the Pomaia plateau. The glasses are offered in combination with platters of Schiacciata, cheeses, cured meats and locally produced oil.

Furthermore, Gianni Moscardini will take part in the most important spring and summer wine tourism events in the area promoted by the Wine Tourism Movement, including Cantine Aperte , from 25 to 26 May 2024, and Calici di Stelle in August. In addition, in collaboration with local producers and restaurants, the company has organized a series of events to give the opportunity to appreciate its wines together with delicacies from Tuscan cuisine, according to the aperitif formula. Thursday 27 June will be dedicated to the aperitif with cheeses from the Busti family (Acciaiolo, Pisa), Thursday 18 July the wines will be accompanied by tripe from Taverna Aurora (Vicopisano, Pisa), while on Friday 2 August they can be tasted together with the ASD's kebabs Futura (Vicopisano, Pisa).
