Food&Wine Italia Awards: Cantina Tollo awards Berberè and Cuochi Ma Buoni

The Abruzzo cooperative, thanks to the partnership with the Italian editorial staff of the well-known American magazine, has awarded the two projects the awards dedicated to Innovation and Social Responsibility in Food

Sharing , innovation and research , social and economic responsibility : these are the values that guide the work of Cantina Tollo , a historic cooperative from Chieti that for more than sixty years has been committed to promoting and raising awareness of Abruzzo wines in Italy and beyond national borders. The same values can be found in the work of Berberè and Cuochi Ma Buoni , the two projects awarded by Cantina Tollo in the categories Innovation in Food and Social Responsibility in Food respectively during the fifth edition of the Food&Wine Italia Awards , held at the Cinema Barberini in Rome on Monday 21 October.

Berberè is the project of brothers Matteo and Salvatore Aloe, who in 2010 opened their first pizzeria in Castel Maggiore (Bologna) convinced that pizza should be simple and comforting, filled with excellent raw materials, light and digestible. A winning formula, which in recent years has led to the opening of 20 locations throughout Italy and London, as well as Casa Madre , a permanent training center in Bologna.

Cuochi Ma Buoni is instead a group of cooking enthusiasts who met to exchange recipes and became a volunteer project: the aim is to raise funds for charities by organizing events in Milan. From March 2022 to today, 10 events have been held, 1170 guests served, 9 different associations supported and over 50 thousand euros collected and donated.

“We are proud – explains Sandro Ciavattella , general manager of Cantina Tollo – to consolidate the partnership with Food&Wine Italia and to reward Berberè and Cuochi Ma Buoni , two companies whose ethical and entrepreneurial approach we share. The innovative spirit has always distinguished us: our wines are the result of constant research into practices and techniques capable of guaranteeing a high level of quality. We believe the social aspect of our cooperative to be equally fundamental: the work of our members is the true driving force of Cantina Tollo; their hands harvest the grapes that, once they become wine, will tell the story of Abruzzo and its excellence in the world. We therefore saw in Berberè and Cuochi Ma Buoni the same desire to join forces and achieve the same goals”.

The awards were assigned by a board composed of the editorial staff of Food&Wine Italia and authoritative journalists, bloggers and communication and design experts. In particular, Berberè was awarded in the category Innovation in Food because it was recognized as an original entrepreneurial initiative, accompanied by a corporate culture based on research, transparency, sharing, continuous training and revolutionary kindness. Cuochi Ma Buoni won the Social Responsibility in Food award for having created, from a common passion, a volunteer project that demonstrates how good food does not stop at the table.
