Characteristics: The Collio Bianco wine has a color ranging from pale yellow to deep, more or less intense, golden yellow, sometimes with copper glares. Its smell is delicate, slightly aromatic. Its taste is dry, lively, fresh and harmonious. Historical-cultural information and curiosities: Viticulture, in the territory of Collio, developed in very ancient times, but became an established activity with the Romans: the grape growing and wine production became central to the economy and culture of the time. With the Serenissima Republic of Venice the importance of wine and its marketing increased. The arrival of the twentieth century and the upheavals of the First World War destroyed the vineyards but, fortunately, laid the foundations for a reconstruction and modernization of the wine system (also with the addition of foreign grape varieties). Collio was one of the first wines in Italy to obtain the DOC, in 1968. Serving suggestions: This wine is usually accompanied by soups and broth. It is excellent with eggs and fish dishes. Production area: The production area of this wine is in the hills surrounding the city of Gorizia, between the Judrio river and the border with Slovenia. Grape varieties allowed for its production: Chardonnay, Istrian Malvasia, Picolit, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Ribolla Gialla, Riesling Renano, Riesling Italico, Sauvignon and Tocai Friulano. Müller Thurgau and Gewürztraminer Superiore can contribute to the production for not more than 15%.
