Description of the wine: Dolcetto is a red wine, one of the most famous Italian wines, which is produced from grapes of the same name (Dolcetto vines, in fact), in Piedmont. Organoleptic characteristics: The Dolcetto wines are generally of intense ruby red color, with a fruity, vinous, characteristic aroma, sometimes woody. In the mouth they are dry, slightly bitter, soft, medium-bodied. Historical-cultural information and curiosities: The Dolcetto grape variety's origins are uncertain, someone place them in Monferrato, while according to another tradition it comes from the nearby Liguria. Despite the name, Dolcetto is a dry wine. The etymology derives from the Piedmontese word duset, that is bump, because the vineyards are located in an ideal location on the bumps of the hills. The name could also stem from the fact that the ripe grapes taste very sweet. Serving suggestions: The Dolcetto wines are excellent throughout the meal; express better their characteristics with salami, main courses, white meats. Production area: Piedmont. Grape varieties allowed for its production: Dolcetto 100%, although for some types the use of other varieties in small percentage (3%) is admitted.
